  1. Yep this one will probably only have taken four years to complete :-D though I have to say that I have taken it slowly, as for the next project I don't think that there will be one for quite a while, I want to concentrate on the vehicles I already have and enjoy them but you never know what may turn up maybe another motorcycle who knows :cool2:
  2. Spent far to long down t'shed according to the boss today :cool2: Started making the top side panels for the rear body today in the glorious sunshine :-D I always think that I will achieve more than I actually get done, but it is starting to take shape now.
  3. Thanks Maurice my mistake, do you have one your truck ? Is it etched ,printed, brass or aluminium any info much appreciated RR.
  4. Good day playing with t'truck managed to do some more work on the loom and cab fittings , its always surprising how many small jobs there are that are needed to be completed just to get one item sorted, todays task was to make up the two battery leads which meant completing the fixings to the stowage box adjusting clips for the starting handle, fixing block of wood for the lower end of the same, deciding where the four clips should go to take the jack handle extension pieces, position the battery box before drilling the holes for the cables, and then finally making up the leads. Hopefully more progress and pics Monday :-D
  5. As my Mw restoration continues I am looking at having some lubrication plates made, these were fitted to the underside of Mw bonnets does anyone have an original they could photograph for me please I know the rough size as the holes are present in my bonnet but I don't know what it should look like. Cheers RR.
  6. Few more hours tonight in't shed finally the cab hoop bows are fitted / painted etc :-D next sort rear tyres then back to the wiring loom. One thing I am looking to get made is the lubrication chart that was fitted to the underside of the bonnet on early MW's does anyone have an image of this chart ? was it etched brass or ? I have the hole centres which are 213mm x 287 mm so I know roughly what size it should be I just don't know what it looks like. Cheers RR.
  7. The paint is cellulose and was mixed for me by Middleton paint of Gloucester they used a sample to mix the colour from . I did ask for the formula but he does it by eye not machine it's a tricky colour as it looks green sometimes then brown depending on the light conditions .
  8. Yes on the original drawings there is an allowance for shrinkage I mentioned this to Frank Brown who has made all the canvas for my mw the other day and he allows + 5% for this,
  9. More time spent fettling the bow hoops canvas top and doors. Lifted the frame by 1"1/2 which allows the rear straps to tension the canvas better. Canvas doors fitted as well
  10. Hi Pete a mate of mine is a blacksmith and he made them for me, I tried but failed dismally
  11. Nope thats another block on standard bores, not sure yet which one I'll rebuild probably this one as I have a set of +20 pistons available
  12. Not sure about later trucks rippo has them on his early mw, I would think that they all had them will check with the parts list
  13. Nuther few hours trying to sort the bckts that hold the cab tilt frame Harwood blocks to fit behind the tubing. A time consuming job but worth it, don't miss the next exciting episode when I should manage to fit it all together for the final time folks
  14. Yes the mw, s look like Z 417 on the bonnet which I think is the second contract probably dates the photos late 1939 early 1940 the other pictures are interesting too but I like the production line shots of the bedfords most
  15. Thanks for posting that Pete, some nice images of early mw, s
  16. Thanks pete spent nearly 4 hrs fiddling with those bow hoops etc but it was nice to see the canvas go on even if its just temporary. Gave the jack top not thingy extension a quick blast and coat of satin black to make it look all nice, its the little things like finding one of these rare beasties that makes this resto hobby so satisfying.
  17. At last some free time to spend on't truck down't shed Drilled and fitted the bckts for the front cab hoops and had a go at a trial fit. Then dropped the new canvas cab cover on to see if its a good fit, I think the whole lot will need lifting a couple of inches or so to make a better look, will leave the canvas on for a while to let it settle then adjust the uprights.
  18. Found this waiting for me in the greenhouse when I got home from work this afternoon :-D I have a number of these jacks already its the top extension piece that I want :cool2: Not a lot else happening on the Bedford at the mo as I have been away to steam rallies most weekends for the last month or so but hope to make good progress soon.
  19. Yes very good weekend my first visit to this show laid back and lots to see
  20. After a long telephone conversation with the advertiser it became apparent that he is not the owner / seller and that although the truck is a rolling chassis the fuel tank and all pumping equipment is not present and will need to be fabricated, the truck is possibly ex AM though may not have been a refueler. I could not confirm a price but fear it was beyond me. Plus no pics of the advertised truck were forthcoming.
  21. Cedar wood seems to do the trick well so far !
  22. I have a pair of what I believe to be Ford or Chevrolet rear hubs complete with brake drums, shoes etc etc, they are surplus to requirements so if anyone's interested contact me and I'll post some pics on here. Price FOC. YES free to anyone who wants to pick them up, they are very heavy ! Otherwise they go for scrap which would be a shame. RR.
  23. Did you have the head skimmed as well ? The exhaust manifold face tends to suffer, had to have mine skimmed .
  24. Did a quick sprint around the ross auto jumble this morning, slim pickings but did find a nice 1940 dated British ammo box but nowt else then off t'shed. Finally have second wheel free from its hub what a job !! Have made up a spare wheel / tyre for the water tanker trailer then spent the afternoon sandblasting and etch priming a couple of late pattern engine side panels hope they are ok Kevin Next job is to get the wheel rims split and the trakgrips saved only one wheel looks ok to use but hopefully there should be some spare wheels nuts off the rotten one.
  25. Welcome fellow Norton owner do you know if any work was done to the top end ? Maybe it needs a good run to bed things in .
