  1. Spark plug cleaner., lots of books, 1/6th scale pewter model of a mk1 bren, NO. 11 cab cmp model kit, more books and the mesh for the engine panels for my MW restoration 😁
  2. Went to Hay on wye today, Oooooops ! Spoilt for choice 😀
  3. Bit more progress on the rear storage bin I have an original MWC bin and was going to adapt it to fit the MW but thought it sacrilege to do so. Have opted to make a new one as I have the pattern. Its nice to be able to work in the garage at home for a change. this is the pocket for the drivers handbook which is located inside the locker door. Door is next on the to do list.
  4. Yes Guy I think it is mentioned in the drivers manual although there is a pocket on the inside of the door which looks like it would have held this booklet although as you say it's open at the top and not weatherproof I have the chains but probably won't be keeping them in the bin :-D there is also mentioned a leather tool bag wether this was stowed in the cab or rear bin I am not sure.
  5. Thanks Andy Having your bckts etc as a pattern really helps getting the details correct just need to make sure of correct position before I drill any fixing holes, I hope to fold the sheet steel for the new tool bin on Thursday so that I can make the end panel and door before it goes with your bin to my mate the blacksmiths to have the frames made, will have two new bckts made for you that takes the rubber stops at the same time :-D
  6. Its another visit to the shed and I thought I'd have a look at the petrol can holder frame Again ran out of time before I could fix it in position.
  7. Bit of a bitsa day down't shed today started with a repair Andy's tool box leant to me as a pattern, thanks Andy. Then fettled the engine panels a bit more, they are now ready to have the top edge folded over 1/2 " and then joggled as per the originals, also thanks to Kevin I have been able to have a CAD drawing made for the mesh and this has now been sent out to tender, depending on cost does anyone else want a set of early engine panels ? I can either make complete items or supply the mesh . I have a later set of panels that I can use to make reproductions of as these seem to be hard to find too.
  8. Interesting my C 15 had desert coloured paint in evidence can't remember its chassis number, I wonder how close it was to my truck ?
  9. Another fun day in't shed got some more wheel rims back from the blasters and got them in primer then made a couple of sets of wooden blocks for the cab fittings and then cut the engine panels to size though some more work needed before I am 100 % happy with their fit. In making the panels I have a chance to make them somewhere near fitting unlike the original later pair I have that only fit where they touch, but I guess that's how they are. Didn't get chance to look at the mudguards ran out of time again maybe next weekend.
  10. Welcome to the hmvf Renè I own a 44 gpw ex British army :-D
  11. Hi Danny My earth cable runs from the neg terminal on the battery to that cross member then there is a seperate braided type earth strap the goes from there to the lower mounting bolt on the starter motor / engine block hope that is of some use. RR.
  12. Yes that caught us out on a jeep manifold once what a b#gger !!!
  13. Yes Richard good point about the collars and checking inlet an ex manifold faces for alignment I loosened mine where they bolt together to help reduce the stress and retightened when ex and inlet were bolted up to the head.:-D
  14. It's not the block but the head you need to inspect, the manifold face on my head was badly damaged by heat, probably caused by a blowing gasket and needed skimming , I also had the valve seats re cut and valves re ground at the same time.
  15. Yes Maurice whatever gives the best results, either that or using a sharp pencil trace around the mesh and opening . Thanks again for your help Jeremy
  16. Yes you right there John it was a hell of a job :cool2: just waiting for the patterns for the mesh now as it'll take some time to get them cut will probably get half a dozen pairs made if anyone else needs some early panels or mudguards :-D I have the technology so they say.
  17. Always enjoy a new installment in this restoration a credit to you all :-D
  18. Today I have been mainly bashing tin ! New 1.2mm sheet cut + 10mm allowed for the rolled edge. 10 mm removed from 18mm ply former . Scrap piece of 18mm mdf cut to same radius laid on top again allowing 10 mm for the roled edge. Edge dressed down. Piece flipped over and screwed to ply to secure, 4mm rod bent to radius and laid up against upstand. Now the tricky time consuming bit of dressing the upstand over the rod, used pincers to hold rod tight. Finished edge. Pair of panels ready to be adjusted to fit the MW then hopefully cut the apertures and get the mesh laser cut, but that's part 3.
  19. Mmmmmmmm unfortunately that was an old advert it's long gone had a chat with the guy though who turns out to be a legal Eagle and had some interesting views on the law concerning deacts will put up a new post elsewhere at a later date.
  20. Its been another fun day tin bashing in't garage instead of down t'shed, heater on and radio what luxury :-D mudguards are done and are in primer with only one blackened finger nail !!!! :wow:
  21. Hi All Am looking for a BREN MK 1 transit box and anything else MK 1 related please. Cheers RR.
  22. Great day at the malvern military fair, lots of nice bedford bits, thanks Pete :-D even found some nice N. O. S. Champ parts at reasonable prices but seemed to spend most of the time chatting to mates. Good to see it busy with lots of bin bags going out the door I must admit to succumbing to temptation and something .303 found its way home :-D Don't miss the next exciting instalment folks, yes more panel beating, doh !
  23. :-D thanks pete nothing like beating the living daylights out of a peice of tin to pass the time away :cool2: see you tomorrow at Malvern
