  1. Yes Hanno :-D I may keep it to tow behind the Bedford :cool2:
  2. Well its been a funny old week of trailers, farms and tyres, while looking for a small military trailer to tow behind the Champ or Jeep I came across an ad on Epay for an old farm trailer, on closer inspection I could see it that although the trailer was shot the wheels or more importantly the tyres were 9.00x16 Tracgrips which was great news as I've been looking for a second pair for nearly three years :-D, the bad news was that they were in Derbyshire :wow: !! That was Tuesday / Weds when I happened to mention the trailer to a workmate he told me about an old military water tanker trailer on the estate so a quick trip out at lunchtime and I came across this under an oak tree in a farmers field. Turns out to be Canadian and I hope to save it. Its Saturday and a day working roofing then off to a farm in Derbyshire on Sunday to bring these home. Have just got these back after a quick 280 mile round trip ! they look a bit scabby but will clean up, have no cracks and very good tread. Ruep the farmer cut the axle just behind the brake plate so I have two complete hubs which look like Chev or Ford CMP. Ah yes and before I forget whist talking to the steel fixers again at work they have put me on to a small military trailer that's been in storage for years, but that's another story :-D. On the restoration front I have had the bckts for the cab hoops made so can now fit the the bckts and frames to check the fit of the front canvas. Time for a glass of red and some spag bol.
  3. Thanks again for the info Pete there is still the original rear light and isolation switch fitted to the rear cross member, I have this light fitting lurking in the garage that I thought could be Canadian ?
  4. Thanks for the pics Pete now I know what's missing
  5. Thanks Maurice not sure what I'll do with it yet.
  6. Will ask as I know that a few people are looking for the filters I may restore it myself to put behind the MW
  7. Doh !! just realised its a 180 gal not 250 gal capacity
  8. Its amazing what's right under your nose ! found this today not 1/4 of a mile from where I am working. A chance conversation with one of MF,s mechanics led to this find. looks to be all there apart from the filters are missing. chassis and tank seem to be very good. Though the springs may need some work. I don't think this tyre would get through an MOT though :-D Still has a rebuild plate with the post war reg no. of 84 XE 14 was in a rush today as we had a looksee during our lunch break but am making enquiries into saving the old thing.
  9. Hi Mike The cab hoops are originals I have yet to make the rear hoops and will post up some blow by blow pics when I have a go, I think Pete Ashby posted up a method of bending the tube on this site and that's how I'm going to do mine hopefully :nut: RR.
  10. Hi Louis Glass came with the frames I traded from Rippo it's only 4mm laminated safety with rounded top corners and polished edges RR.
  11. Yes as Danny mentioned UNF and UNC nuts and bolts are used on the MW best get hold of a parts manual as it lists most of whats used where.
  12. Still on with the wiring loom but have also completed the seat adjuster, trial fitted the seat squabs and backs and did some work on the radiator cover plus have fitted a spare rebuilt fuel pump and connected up all the new fuel lines. I utilised a champ pump lower casting to enable me to hand prime the carb, the rest is 28hp it should save the battery when I put some fuel in the tanks and sort out any teething troubles with fuel lines/joints etc, will swap out the brass cover for a glass one to enable me to monitor fuel flow on start up.
  13. Welcome to the hmvf Colin Lovely looking work, can't make it to Evesham this year but maybe see you at Welland or Marcle.
  14. Thanks Danny That's a centre line radius of 8 inches or approx 200 mm I can now make a start on my hoops. Cheers RR.
  15. Hi All Just a quick question can any tell me to what radius the rear bow hoop top corners were set to, I'm about to start sorting my hoops but need this measurement please. Many thanks RR.
  16. Well What a cracking weekend, Norton up on the first kick on saturday, Champ thing did the same just had to free the clutch off no probs took it for a good spin went like a watch Pre flight checks Ice cream top up stop Now back to the MW resto today didn't seem to get a lot done as its only a week to go before we head out to Verdun and the Ardennes but have connected up the inst dash light fitting plus sorted out the seat adjuster. Painted now will refit next session.
  17. From memory I knocked the rivet out when I replaced my spring , only way to do it I think. could your master cylinder be over filled manual states to fill to within 1/2" of the bottom of the filler hole or you may need a new gasket.
  18. Good wkend in and out of the shed, have sandblasted the bow hoops and a few other bits and bobs done some repairs and got it all etch primed and undercoated. Most of today has been spent sorting the loom out forward of the bulkhead, a time consuming but satisfying job
  19. Hi Tommy Welcome and good luck with your restoration, I look forward to following your adventure ! don't forget lots of before / during / after pics please. RR.
  20. Ha Ha yes Pete force of habit from working as a carpenter I always take a flask and sandwiches down the shed to work on the truck as its usually a full day. The loom seems to be working out well so far with slight adjustments for indicators, will probably make a plug in set of removable rear indy/stop tail lights for road use and hang them on the rear tailgate to add extra safety. As there was no loom to speak of on the pre restoration truck I had no choice but to commission a new one especially as I wanted it to look as original as pos.
  21. Yes Guy I have copied and enlarged the diagrams for clarity. Head and sidelights fitted along with spaghetti Voltage reg fuse box and nearside loom sorted almost, need some more P clips.
  22. Yes and why was my thank you post removed too, can't you be civil on here anymore ?
  23. Have a couple of headlight reflectors that need re chroming for my Bedford MW anyone know of a reliable company please ? As you can see the chrome has had it. This is the original drivers side with "dipping" mechanism the reflector can be removed from the gubbins for chroming.
  24. Thanks Pete yes its from auto sparks and seems very good
  25. Not much time on the truck this avo but have started to fit this spaghetti stuff, Could take awhile !!!
