  1. SORRY FOR THE DELAY CHAPS........pics taken but not posted yet, tank is decribed on the display plate as a 95MM AVRE ? Not hugely up on churchills so i will mod the pics tonight as they need resizing.....those better informed can allocate the description. The vehicle is not exactly squirilled away as its right next to the perimeter railings by the Prince Arthur Road entrance. It most definatley is not a 75 mm Crocodile. Tim
  2. Superb work but it looks realy odd with no turret bins................never seen one topless before!!
  3. Thier you go........i knew you were on the ball and read the manual, Suit, NBC, Repair. It is actually green gaffer tape. Designed so that in a real live event, your mates could watch with curiosity for when you began to twitch in a horrible manner! :cool2: Whilst in this thread i really have no option but to mention the following :- Underkegs, green, net, humungous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jhons, long, crotch defeating. ( when wet had this amazing capacity to deform to something else entirley)
  4. In the paper this weekend that Gibralter is looking to put a bid in for her to be moored up out thier as a tourist come historical exibit. They are very keen with a view to the linkage with the ww2 ark lying in waters not too far distant. Good luck to them and if anybody is looking at this from HMG give the ark to them at a reduced price you miseries
  5. Yup i know where your comming from on that one, its almost like its fine when it stops leaking coolant everywhere!! Cheers for the info and tips so far, will be doing the compression test this weekend so i will let you know what i get out of it. It may be a moot point as it seems to pull well and is not belching out black smoke at idle or even sudden acelleration ( sudden acelleration from a morris?........surely an overstatement ) At least if i take readings now i can check it each season to keep an eye on things. One other thing i shall be doing is changing out the gearbox oil, was fine at the start of last season, but when i checked it last weekend i found that it is completely air entrained. Really wierd as ive never seen gear oil do that. If you dip your finger in, its covered in a soufle type of oil. The heat from your hand then makes all the bubbles fiz and burst then normal gear oil drips off yer finger. No sign at all of any emulsifying due to water ingress or contamination. Any body used the morris lubricants gear oils? Regards Tim
  6. Hi gents, Been trawling thro the manuals and literature i have but no mention of base line compression to be expected from a healthy engine at standard 82mm bore. Any body know what is to be expected from a healthy 6cyl morris engine ? Even if its ball park, lots of variables i know can affect the actuall compression reading. Reading in BAR or PSI fine by me. If this is a stupid question please feel free to tranfer to " I may be stupid but......" Regards Tim
  7. NOT THE WAINSCOTT ONE AS THAT IS STILL ON ITS PLINTH, thier is another one on a plinth in Gillingham business park, part of an old barracks site. Regards Tim
  8. I seem to recall that slings were often worn round the wrist then connected to the butt sling swivel, on the principle that it was permanantly attached to you and in extremis if some bugger got thier hands on it a good pull would swing the muzzel away from you. In theory very nice ........dont know if thier are any recorded incidents where successfull. Tim
  9. Looks like they are aiming off for the scrap man as they have the details of steel content etc. Similar scenario to some comments on other parts of the forum, at the moment she is a surplus to requirements item.............if she lies in a creek for the next 30 years she may accrue some "historical" interest and be worthy of preservation.
  10. Could be the address is like that to pin down the miscreant, if a modern mil vehicle gets cought out but not stopped they just contact the central issueing authority and they tell them which unit the vehicle belongs to. Instant letter to the MTWO, after that its childs play to find out who was actually driving. :-( Regards Tim
  11. Could be right in that respect but to ensure i will grab a couple of pics this week and post em up Regards Tim
  12. I think the curator mentioned that it came from Bovy but that the rest of the vehicle was broken for spares to get thiers up and running. The turret is only located there pending space being made inside .........or potentialy being located on the top of thier other churchill. Personnally unless they can get the correct hull i would prefere to see it as a stand alone as the churchill they have is the support gun tank. From the little you can see it would appear that it has some internal fittings but not very quantifiable at the moment as the hatches have yet to have the tag welds removed and proper access gained. As you said some external fittings missing and that bloody great patch but that could be relocated subsurface to the turret and the external treated up to at least look like its cast. I will look to sending you the pics eddy, sorry for the delay but ive been up in Newcastle for a week........got to keep yer mum happy !!!
  13. Hey thier Eddy, Was over the museum on camp the other day took some pics for you, couple posted, lots more detail shots if you want em. Just give me a pm with your e address. The turret is reputed to have come from the D Day Avre,s. Not fantstic condition as it has a large patch on the side. It does however have its mortar Regards Tim
  14. Realy nice bit of film that, can i assume the morris ambulances were fitted with the same bodies as the K2? If so was it a service issued body? Not to be too harsh, but i wonder how many of the Crusaders made it to the end of the parade? Tim
  15. How about the lucas brake light pressure switch to the back of the master cylinder ? Still available now with no changes apart from stock number and fitted to my 37 PU, hydraulic brakes were around before then so it must be in with a shout. tim
  16. Tell you what fellas, i will wake up now and post this in the right thread :nut:
  17. Not wishing to split hairs but could the 13 Pdrs be classed as a vehicle?? How about the lucas hydraulic brake light switch in the back of the master cylinder? Used on my PU and still used today with no changes apart from the stock number. PU is 37 dated and hydraulic brakes were around before then. tim
  18. Yes indeed, pins into the recievers on the bankseat beam, then your vehicle of choice is connected. Also capable of pulling you into the gap when you are directed to boom the bridge too far as i discovered to my cost. No amount of wheel spinning in reverse was enough to hold it  That was a long day !!!!
  19. Great pics my friend, Some very nice early vehicles and weapons. Mix of 15 Cwt,s early solid bumper and later variant with brush gaurd. The Bren is not a BREN but a ZGB, pre production model from the czech factory due to a delay in enfield produced ones, note the different sight apeture and the slant back angle on the rear sight. Do wish i could get my hands on one but so ....sooooo rare!!! They were even used when the manual was being produced, check out the line drawings and you will see the canted back rear sight. The guys were realy realy accurate when they did those drawings. Keep em comming!! Regards Tim
  20. Hi Steve, Had not realised that the developments on the german side were that early. I know that the brits were moving stocks of 25 Pdr munitions (mustard) to all theaters on the sly in case of enemy use. It wasn,t until the accident in italy that local medical chiefs were even informed it was around. Even had stocks of it in singapore when it fell, it was meant to be ditched from barges at a location off shore but with time pressing it was sea dumped close in. Still have occasions of odd rounds being washed up. Regards Tim
  21. Hi Dusan, Quite posible that the papers are pre treated..........the question is with and for what. As far as my limited knowledge of ww2 chemical attack you would be looking at Mustard Gas type of blistering agent. I believe that if the brassards or gas detection plates on the vehicles reacted it was a one shot deal the same as a litmus paper. They would have to be replaced or re-coated. If i recall correctly the germans did actually develop the first nerve agent, but i am not aware of any actually being used. Their is an interesting write up of a special raid laid on by the germans during the last months of the war to cross a river and reach a factory to destroy a stock of nerve agent before the russians realised what they were sat on. Quite successfull by all acounts. Anybody else on the forum have any furthur info on this type of warfare during WW2?? I assume Chris, that you are familiar with sitting all by yourself in a hole in the ground dressed like a weirdo whilst all around are having a nice day ! Regards Tim g
  22. Hi thier, The papers you spoke off will only be part of the sytem, the paper is porous to allow air to pass but will most likley have a chemical reagent (or possibly more than one type of reagent dependant upon what you are testing for) to drop onto the paper first. It will then react of gas is present and change colour. Remember that these were most likley used to check for an area that was actually clean, i should imagine you would know very very quickly that you were being gased and get your mask on. A similar device called an RVD was used by the brit army for a good while before the kit became electronic. RVD stands for Residual Vapour Detector. Regards Tim
  23. As in........the dealer did not care that it was exeptionally early and a survivor, and placed a normal price against the beast. Most deffinatley not as in.........nobody was looking and shot past on the run grabbing said item and not paying for it. Unlike some at the major shows as previous occurances would indicate. Regards Tim
  24. Ditto the Morris 3.5, ice up and then calms down on reaching op temp. Tim
  25. Dark earth may be a pleasant name for the paint :cool2: Cannot remember the number. Splendid job Mr Tobin.......good luck with the small bits.......took me a fortnight to find me rad cap......but then a safe place is a safe place!!! Regards Tim
