  1. Hi Simon I've sent you a pm with my e-mail address Rgds Andy
  2. I was wondering what was the best way to seal the hole and make it look tidy. I've have a few pieces of old canvas. All I need to do now is to get on the right side of the missus, that old singer sowing machine might just be up to the job so the old dear says. Many thanks Clive
  3. Hi John many thanks for the quick reply Andy
  4. I live not to far away from Abbotsfield Park in Urmston I took my Ferret over today unfortunately the English weather rather spoiled it Saturday sunny Sunday pouring down for most of the day. http://www.maydaysteam.co.uk/ Back to the question would anyone know if this a Morris I'm thinking it is but would be happy to be shot down Andy
  5. Sounds expensive Hi Simon Many thanks Andy
  6. Seen these nato hooks on e-bay it could be that they won't fit landrovers and such and it may be just to good to be true but at £22 + £10 postage...... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=140213828784&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=004 Item number: 140213828784
  7. I bought the springs from theses guys on Lancashire Hill Stockport http://www.landranger.co.uk/ I've just had a quick word with them I'm taking the beast over next week should be interesting travelling on the motorway Andy
  8. I'm sure that I've fitted them correctly right side on the right side as per the part numbers on the reciept. I'm pretty certain that they weren't gen parts the springs had the part no's sprayed on them. I didn't stand them side by side I was in a bit of a rush to fit them (It rarely stops raining in Manchester when it does stop you make hey as it were). I've probably made a mistake somewhere in the re-fitting. I re-fitted the springs using plenty off copper grease so that I could undo bolts / nuts and the like at a later date if I needed to which seems like it might be sooner than I thought. What I might do is give the supplier a bell tomorrow and see if he has any suggestions otherwise I’ll see if he’s willing to swap them. Bugger I was pleased as punch when I swapped them thinking I’d cured the problem only for it to return and bite me in the a** Andy
  9. I think this should go in this part of the forum it's something that I've done I replaced the rear springs on my series 3 swb, one side of the springs was very flat. After replacing the springs and bushes (including the chassis bushes) I'm having the same problem that I had before I replaced them. Any kind of weight in the vehicle or a sankey trailer flattens the spring on the left side dropping the mud flap onto the floor it literally scrapes along the road. Take the weight off and the vehicle returns to an even keel Anyone had this problem before?? Andy
  10. Another way of removing paint from plastic is fresh brake fluid takes a while but will do the job found out the hard way one night driving home in my MGB when I had it, all I could select was third and overdrive third. Also any good and I mean a good model shop will have a product that removes paint from plastic, I've got a tub somewhere in my modelling stuff haven't used it in quite a while. Andy
  11. Many thanks all chuffed with the answers; absolutely amazed to find that Thompson’s actually does the job I was expecting to pay big money. I thought it might be one of those urban myth things! Best of all though I actually have a tin of the stuff in my garage Andy
  12. Repairing canvas I've just bought myself the canvas for my swb land rover unfortunately it has a hole in it what's the best way to repair it and then re-seal it. Sealing canvas A friend of a friend has mentioned that Thompson’s water seal is an effective way of sealing the canvas after it has been cleaned and allowed to dry. Anyone heard of this?? Andy
  13. Hi Simon If you get chance could you post up some pictures? Andy
  14. It's great fun swapping the tyres not! I've changed all five tyres with a friend it took roughly hour for each and that includes replacing the tyres as well. If you ever fancy selling your tyres / rims let me know I'm in need of four Andy
  15. Hi Chris Thanks for the quick reply Maybe in the future can't help but think that I've gone the wrong way in buying the headset first Websites o.k. had no problems getting on your site Regds Andy
  16. Does anyone recognise this clansman headset I bought last year off ebay had a quick look thought that it looked o.k. left it in the box until I thought I might need it. I opened the box up at the weekend so that I could take a few pictures of the differant types of clansman helmets/headsets that I own, realised that this particular headset doesn't have a microphone. Whats it for?? Just for listening no interaction? Andy
  17. This picture of any use? It was taken by me at Withams sometime during the summer of 2006, when we actually had a proper summer. I'm not bitter honest Andy
  18. The whole idea of a deactivated weapon is that it shouldn't be able to made for want of a description fireable. My understanding having seen pre and post deacs is that pre 95 deacs have more moving parts i.e. more realistic able to pull the trigger cock so on so forth. Post 95 deacs from the ones that I have seen, have more of the insides milled scooped away and welded up. If someone has access to guns spares such as an armourer he she could theoretically reactivate a pre 95 weapon notice the word THEORETICALLY! Post 95 more difficult more engineering required. To reactivate a weapon a person has to have a basic understanding off firearms and be able to operate the machines required to do the work; lathes milling machines and such. For the vast majority of the population those engineering skills do not exist, most people do not have the equipment / skills to reactivate a deac. I don’t have the skills nor the expertise, but I do understand what would be needed and DIY tools from B&Q won’t do the job! In the 'engineering' world it is becoming more and more difficult to find people with those basic skills, look around for engineering type workshops there not there anymore in this country. The suggestion that a licence of some sort could be suggested for ownership of deacs was an honest one. If we don’t jump in with suggestions for responsible ownership you can bet the last pound in your pocket that we’ll lose the rights we presently have. It is possible to see on the horizon a total ban on any form of civilian gun ownership so get in first with MVT, IMPS, I hate this word in so many ways but it fits be proactive the anti gun lobby already is! I dislike the pc lobby, the nanny state so on so forth but you have to act responsibly and positively where this one is concerned otherwise it will be gone and once it’s gone it’s gone for good! I haven’t got a fire arms certificate if that’s what it’s called but I’d rather pay to keep what I have, even if it’s a new form of licence because I’m sure that any compensation won’t cover what I’ve already paid out. Andy I wrote the above while Neil was writing his out
  19. Now that we know that something will be being done to remove pre 95 deacs from circulation / bring pre 95 deacs up to 'new' government specs should we as a movement at some point approach the authority's with the suggestions that only individuals who have a licence should be able to own a deac. I know that sounds naive but sometimes you have to go in with positive suggestion just to get a result. If we don't get in early enough we all know what happened with VCR Mk 1. Getting in at the beginning is the key to a good solution / outcome for this movement. Having said that If were not careful we won't even be able to hold r hand up in the air and mime the action of a gun being fired cowboys and Indians style. Pathetic Andy
  20. On the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/7180712.stm This... is it a get out bit for us, will it mean that we have to pay for a license? I will shortly consult on a way forward to allow genuine curators to collect legitimate firearms while giving the police and other enforcement agencies the powers they need to get black market firearms of our streets Deacs aren't blackmarket weapons all up and above board and perfectly legal Andy
  21. What I should have added but forgot in my hurry to reply and get out of the house Cracking pictures I prefer looking at in service shots not sure if it's nostalgia or the snapshot in history bit, they always look more interesting can't quite explain it well enough at 00:35 (poor english). Thanks for sharing anyway Fred and David the close up of the UN transfer will come in handy for my restoration 02CA35 Lee is your Ferret the earlist Ferret still in existence? Andy
  22. It's not on any of the old Ferret Scout Car pages but that doesn't mean a lot there's plenty off Ferret owners who didn't get involved with the forum (ferretheaven) or the old Ferret Scout Car site. Ferrets restoration wrecks r still turning up which at the moment is keeping Ferret prices down below the £6000 mark. As soon as they dry up so will the prices go up. Andy Contract details one part isn't correct http://www.ferret-afv.org/oldfh/FH3.htm This isn't up to date it's positively out of date http://www.ferret-afv.org/oldfh/FH4.htm
  23. Nice pictures Is it really 19 years I remember reading about the filming and the B17 crash in Flypast Magazine. How the time flys when your having fun! Andy
  24. The Lancaster was also a development of an earlier design the Avro Manchester powered by Rolls Royce Vulture engines developing 1700+hp. The Vulture engine failed in service taking a number of other promising projects with it. The failure of the Vulture engined Manchester caused the designer Roy Chadwick to alter his design and add four Merlin engines instead of two Vulture engines. There's also a book on the Avro Manchester: The Legend Behind the Manchester by Author Robert Kirby which is well worth a read as it also covers the development, war service, fate of the Manchester's in service and the development of the Manchester into the Lancaster. Before reading about the Lancaster you have to read about the Manchester just to get the proper perspective on the early war years with Bomber Command. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Manchester http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Chadwick Rgds Andy Why the interest my Grandparents worked for Avro as aircraft fitters / builders during the war years. Sadly they've both gone
