  1. I see two options open to you. i) Get a cheaper and easier to maintain MV ii) Get a cheaper and easier to maintain wife Steve ps Just thinking out loud!
  2. I've seen the site already, but would like to see photo's of the 262's out in the real world, now that deliveries are happening. There's been much debate on aviation forums on whether the CAA would allow the 262 over to the UK to display. I guess time will tell. Steve
  3. Keep a camera handy, I'd like to see some photos!! I'm sad too! Steve
  4. Thanks for sharing. It's nice to see these early vehicles being cared for when so much focus is on WW2 vehicles. Steve
  5. Here's one of my wheels. You can see how wide the flange is where the wheel bolts pass through. Steve
  6. Thanks for the replies so far. My wheels are, I think, the M201 riveted types. Looking at them, where the wheel bolts pass through, they seem to have a wider flange than any of the other jeep wheels I've seen. Steve
  7. North East MVT http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/nemvt/nemvt.htm Yorkshire MVT http://www.yorkshiremvt.co.uk/ Yorkshire MVT Show Site http://www.wheelsandwings.co.uk/ Steve
  8. A wheel is a wheel is a wheel.......or is it! I was told that the early MB wheels were riveted, later came the split rims, and then Hotchkiss had welded rims. Whether this is all completely fact I don't know, but I'm sure someone here will know, and I'd also like to know the dates that these changes happened. If possible, can somebody post some pictures of the differences in Jeep wheels. Thanks Steve
  9. Here's a few photos from the weekend of 24th June. The pictures are from Preston Hall Fire Engine & Vintage Vehicle Rally which had good weather. Only three vehicles from the NE MVT attended on the Saturday, others intended to go only Sunday. The Ward le France Wrecker is for sale if anyone is interested. Further details here http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/nemvt/wreckersale.htm While not a military vehicle, I thought this last one might give you a chuckle. Steve
  10. I knew exactly what it meant when I posted it, just thought others might get a chuckle! Steve
  11. I was at the Preston Hall Fire engine and Vintage Vehicle show today, and noticed this unusual Division marking on a friends Wrecker. Perhaps some of you will have come across people from this division before on your travels? Steve
  12. If you need mains on the move, and a low wattage will do ( ie 500w or less ) you can buy a 12volt DC to 240v AC inverter for £30 to £50. I have a 300w start and 150w continuous that will run my laptop or Stereo System ( for 40's music ) from a 12 volt ( car cigarette lighter socket ) http://www.eurobatteries.com/sitepages/inverters.asp?OVRAW=mains%20inverter&OVKEY=main%20inverter&OVMTC=standard http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Transformer_Index/Inverters/index.html?utm_source=overture&OVRAW=mains%20inverter&OVKEY=12v%20inverter&OVMTC=advanced Steve
  13. Why is it that some photos in the Gallery allow you to enter a 'star rating' and others don't? Steve
  14. I hope you've stopped using that 'Red Filter' on all your pictures, like when your truck was under restoration! Steve
  15. All is wonderful and working for me now, so have uploaded a few pics showing what Lynne, myself and "Jessie" the Jeep have been up to over the past year. Steve
  16. There's a relief! :-D I thought it was just me being a numbty You always get these little problems on forum upgrades, but I'm sure I speak for everyone in thanking all those involved in the upgrade for their hard work. Steve
  17. I can access the new site no problems and it looks great, but I can't log on to the gallery feature, despite registering for that as I assumed it may need separate registration after my forum login wouldn't work. I tried two log in names Jessie the Jeep ( my usual forum log in ) & Jessie_the_Jeep ( via the gallery registration instructions ) I keep getting "Your login information is incorrect. Please try again." I tried the forgotten password option, but didn't get any emails with a reminder. I also tried registering "Jessie_the_Jeep" with a different email address and password, but got the message that the username already exists - so it is in the database somewhere! Any thoughts? Steve
  18. I have a 14.1inch screen on my laptop set to 1024 x 768, but the page is still a fraction too wide for me, by about 1/4 inch!!! Steve
  19. I didn't get inside the tower this year. The weekend was so busy, it was the one part of the museum I didn't get to see. The camera is just a new toy, a Nikon D50 Digital SLR with two lenses, an 18-55mm and a 70-300mm. I would have liked to post more, but with 820+ to choose from, I have to be a little picky! Perhaps I'm a little trigger happy, but as a result, got some great pics. Chasing the tanks around the arena was great fun too! I clocked up 14 miles around the airfield in the jeep over the weekend. As for pictures of the tower, there are some below of Thorpe Abbotts, from the 100th Bomb Group website ( http://www.100thbg.com ) The glass observation office on top of most towers, where flight traffic was controlled from. The machine to the left controls the airfield runway lighting and approach lights for the three intersecting runways. The black board I presume is to list the airworthy aircraft available for operations, or aircraft on a mission. Steve
  20. Well I'm back off my holidays, and I got roasted while in the Cotswolds. It was great jeep driving weather though. However, the weekend before the holiday, we were at the 493rd BG Museum open day, at Debach airfield near Ipswich. It was very hot there for the event weekend, giving a good public turn out. There were re-enactors, military vehicles, flying displays, a 40's dance, parade arena etc etc.... We were there all weekend, but the event started officially on the evening of Saturday June 10th, with the 1940's dance with live music provided by "Sticky Wicket". Here's a selection of the 829 photos I took across the weekend! The restored control tower. Some of my flying team at the dance. Now some of the vehicles..... more shortly.....
  21. On my Hotchkiss, the circuit breaker is on the negative side of the battery, with a key to complete the circuit inside the drivers compartment. The positive side goes straight to the starter motor. Steve
