  1. I suspected from the name alone that it might be nasty stuff, but not aware that it was that bad! I assume that once applied and dry its not so bad as you wouldn't want to be sleeping among it or handling it when pitching/striking the tent. I have heard that the brick water proofing is effective and cheap but I have a few places I'd like to put a bit of colour back as well as reproofing. Does anyone have experience of the Warpaint coloured proofer? The other useful thing with the MYSTOX is that it rotproofs as well, but I suppose good housekeeping and making sure the tent is only packed when dry should take care of that.
  2. Not quite sure if this is the right place to ask or if the question has already been asked but here goes anyway....... I have a 7x9 command post tent that could probably do with reproofing, it seems that MoD use a product called MYSTOX TRP, I have been in contact with the manufacturer who only make it for the MoD in batches of 5tons! They do not have stock nor stockists, my question therefore is how do I get some, does it come onto the surplus market, does anyone have any and how much would I need for a 7x9? The next question of course is, if all the above fails what else would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
  3. Just wanted to know If mine contained the same as everyone elses not stir up a hornets nest! :redfaced: :oops2: I know it is a hot topic but I think you being just a little sensitive. I shall not mention it again! Paul.
  4. Thanks for that, now I know they aren't Jeep parts I can sleep easier! (I'm sure any NOS parts are woth saving, buit even with the cosmoline they should be under cover or when the labels are gone nobody will know what they are!) Paul.
  5. Isn't anyone curious as to what is in those boxes stacked in the back under the remains of the roof, looks like primary standard packaging military boxes to me :dunno:. Paul.
  6. Santa brought me a 'Sealy manual tire changer'! Once I find a clear bit of workshop floor to bolt it down to I shall start to make inroads into the pile of tyres and rims I have in the barn. He also brought an auto darkening welding helmet which is jolly handy as I have also recently acquired a slightly rusty TR8 (Well a TR7 with a 3.9Ltr V8 in it) that needs a new sill. Not very green :-D in either sense of the word but still a lot of fun! Happy New Year to you all. :-) Paul
  7. Before I got the Jeep I was (and still am) heavily into Triumph cars, STANPART was Standard Triumphs trade name for spare parts, on its own the name had already been used, so I added 57, a significant year in my life! Should probably have got a new 'handle' for Jeep things but my memories not what it used to be.................................... Regards Paul
  8. Only the Yanks could call a truck that size 'Medium' :? Wouldn't mind having a drive of it though   Paul.
  9. Looking at the reg number on the back it couldbe French, the number format is right and the red/green diagonaly split square is Foreign Legion style. The French used a lot of ex-US wartime equipment, just adapted it as they went along, could be why the hitch appears different. Could be completely wrong of course! :? Still looks good though! Cheers Paul.
  10. I put a Maplin (Velleman kit) electronic ignition on my sons Dolomite and it worked just fine. I would like to do the same for my M201 but with the 24V system it may be a problem. Velleman give alternative component values for a 6V installation but not 24V, I have calculated new values for 24V but not tried them out yet. I may get in touch with them and get their comments, the kits are only about £10 so not much to loose but good potential for gain! Paul.
  11. Don't know if this helps but I've had a few problems with my M201 this year as well! After Beltring it started running a bit rough on the way home, then died completely just after I got back. this was traced to a burnt out coil, so pretty obvious to sort that one. However since I changed the coil (plus points, condenser and plugs) it has started to misfire and backfire on the overrun when warm, everything seems fine but the points have already grown a pip after about 150 miles. So maybe another condenser needed? It has been suggested to me that it could be a problem with fuel additive build up (i normally use Castrol Valvemaster) and the problems do coincide with me having started to use 4 star LRP from Sainsburys! I have filled up with 95 UL and Valve master to dilute the LRP and hope to flush the system through with a decent run this weekend. Watch this space and I'll let you know if it works. I've already tried pouring Redex down the carb at a fast idle, this only served to create lots of smoke and annoy the neighbors no change to the misfire. Paul
  12. The gratuitous MVs were fine, but why did the farmer playwith the clip of 303 rounds then aim his LE at the camera and pull the trigger? My wifes answer predictably was: 'just to show that blokes who play with old military vehicles are nutters.......................' :-( Still, nice to see MVs on the TV! Paul.
  13. Please don't or I may find myself selling one of the the kids for scientific research........ I've always wanted one but managed to convince myself that it is a totaly impractical suggestion. So please don't make me change my mind (again)! Paul.
  14. First thought was: Oh my God, what has he got himself into..... Then: Not too bad I'm sure I've seen worse, just can't remember where! Looks like a lot of work, but I'm sure it will be worth it, wasn't it featured in the Windscreen a while back? Paul.
  15. It does say on the side that are (were) 'Salvage Experts' so maybe they salvaged the truck as well :? Paul
