  1. Brilliant filming Tony, well worth waiting for, looking forward to seeing photos of your restoration.
  2. Hi Adrian. The T looks absolutley fantastic, just wish it was mine, you have done a brilliant job in refurbishing it & I will look forward to seeing it on the roads around Stroud & Stonehouse & hopefully have a ride in it one day, if you want an excort vehicle let me know, we can always fix up a lighted sign on the bike carrier on the back of my car. The blog was a great read, as you have such a good way with words, although I'm not sure you got the measurements right with the ERF which delivered the cab & winch, I would say it was a lot shorter than 45 feet, more like 30ft (my old DAf was 24ft rear body & it was a 4 wheeler, if thats anything to go by). Anyway a good time was had by all & as you say its amassing how much you can do in a day with help. Good luck with the rest of the work, will be down to take more photos some time soon.:wow::cool::beer::drive:
  3. Have been brousing the Isle of Wight Military History Museum's webiste, and see that they have a Thornycroft Mighty Antar for sale, this vehicle is in need of completion of the restoration, they also have two Dyson Drawbar Trailers for the Antar. For more information please email info@isleofwightmilitaryhistorymuseum.co.uk:cool2::wow::whistle:
  4. Hope you have a good holiday Tony, will look forward to the film. Any more news on your other find. Carry on digging. Regards dizzy-t:computerrage:
  5. Thought that we could have a variation on this theme, What is the daftest thing that has happened to you when you have been driving your MV on the roads. Mine was when I worked as a civilian driver at a local Army Camp, I was on my way to I think Colchester, I was driving (well sitting actually) in a Bedford RL & was being towed by a Scammell, we had just arrived at the bottom of StokenChurch Hill on the old A40,when this numpty in a car, decided that he could just squeeze inbetween me and the Scammell, right at the last minute he noticed the A Bar, shame really I would have loved to have gone over the top of him, wonder what he would have put on the Insurance Form.:drive::banghead:
  6. Many years ago when I drove for the British Army, I had to deliver a Land Rover and trailer to Devonport, I can remember talking to some Naval bod (He seemed to be in charge of something) he was asking silly questions, like Whats that = The tow hitch. Whats it for? = To tow a trailer. Whats a Trailer?, This is a trailer . Well whats that black thing. == Thats the lighting cable. What do you need lights for. == To see in the Bally dark. & this pratt was from the Senior Service, God help the British Navy if its run by pratts like that. As the saying goes, for all the so called experts. Ex is something that has been & a Spert is a drip under pressure (Thank's to the late Blaster Bates for that one):nut::rolleyes::sleep::sleep::sleep:
  7. Hi Tony. Have just rejoined Luftwaffe and Allied Airforces Discussion Forum, are you on this one? if so whats your name?. If you would like me to do any more research, please let me know as I am enjoying the experience, also knowing an fellow researcher helps. Dick :saluting::drive: Well I thought I had.
  8. To the person wishing to know where MIddle Garage in Combe Martin is, I think there is only one garage there and its down near the harbour, this would actually not be half way, as the village street is the longest in the UK, as you are coming down to the harbour the garage would be on your left, if my memory serves me correctly, I have never seen any breakdown truck there. Thanks for putting the video on this site, I have watched it and think its one of the best on YouTube.
  9. Hi Tony. Good to speak to you at long last, I have looked at other websites for more info on Lancaster LL 783, as this I recon is the nearest one to the one you found, but no mention of a DFM, sorry, Can you dig up some trees and see whats underneath, or get the metal detector out & have a look see, see if you can get any more info or numbers from the Merlin engine.
  10. Does any one know how many Diamond T's Pickfords had in their fleet, and what happened to them after they were pensioned off?. :readpaper::readbook:
  11. Any idea when this vehicle was manufactured, I worked at a local Army camp in 1968/69 & was there when these LR's were released to the Army, apparently they would be kept 7 years and then released to the public, can remember getting to work one morning and there was a hell of a flap on, some one had tried to pinch one the previous night & drive it through a chain link fence, but the fence stopped it, couldn't see the point as who ever tried to nick it would have had to try and hide it for the 7 years.
  12. Should any one be interested, I have seen a photo of an Antar on the Malta Historic Vehicle web site, theres loads of old vehicles on the web site including a Rotinoff.
  13. Thanks to all who have contributed to our Register, I have had info from the Historic Commercial Vehicle Club of Australia, from a chap calling himself Tatra he has sent me the following websites to look at, http://www.hankstruckpictures/moshe_arzooan.htm http://webshots.com/aslbum/509779906PcLJGy?start=0. Facebook name Roni Sharon. Youtube. Transport Ability Part 1 & 2, there is no need to view all of the second film, as the Diamondt T's are only on few a few minutes of the second film. I hope you enjoy all the info,I cant remember which one it was, but there are about 90 odd Diamond T photos on it, all very interesting and possibly usefull for any one renovating one. Enjoy
  14. No very original having an air horn of the old Scammell, but I know what you mean by scaring pedestrians:shocked::whistle:
  15. Several years ago, when Econofreight were in existance, I heard that one of their big Scammells which was towing two of the wide multi wheeled moduals, was traveling (crawling up) a hill on the M1, the driver got booked for going too slow, when the driver and firm went to court, the case was thrown out by a sympathetic magistrate. You couldn't make it up.
  16. Hi Adrian. Yes to what ever, I feel we do need help, as I feel that I am banging my head against a brick wall & that no one is interested.
  17. For all you Lads & Lass's going for the Lanc taxi ride, if you look at my photos on this site you can have a preview of Just Jane I called in here on my way home from Skeggy one day a few years ago & managed to take these photos, they also have a NAAFI & an extensive gift shop, with video's of how they rescued JJ from RAF Scampton. Hope you have a wonderful day & dont forget to tell us all about it.

My fantacy barn would have the vehicles which I got attached to when I was a civilian driver for the British Army. 1). Diamond T 980. 2). Scammell Breakdown. 3). Bedford RL Breakdown. 4). DUKW. 5). AEC Militant. 6). 10 Ton Swannecked Trailer. 7 & 8) 2 x Rogers Trailer for Diamond T. 9). AEC 6 wheeled Flat Bed. 10). 4 wheeleed trailer for the No 9. :coffee::coffee:
  19. Its a shame they cant do a re run of the Diamond T Tank transporter but in a larger scale, 1/76th is mighty small.
  20. Dont know if any of you lads are interested, but have just seen this film on Steel Soldiers web site, (like this but American). Jeep Disassembled in 4 mins, its on Youtube if any one is interested:cool2:
  21. This isn't an enquirey about the wrong vehicles used in films, just wondering where all the Yanky trucks came from for the film "Yanks" ?. But since you are on about wrong vehicles, there was a Series Land - Rover in Ice Cold in Alex, thats the only one I know apart from the 633 Squadron one. Incedently in the last episode of Darling Buds of May, I think there is a Diamond T wrecker.:embarrassed:
  22. To all you Diamond T owners (all marks & variations) I am attempting to record all the Diamond T's which were manufactured during WW 2, if you own one, or know some who owns one,or have found one anywhere, please go to my page on this forum, where you will find amoungst the photos a questionaire, the questions correspond to the spreadsheet which I am collecting my information on. This site is being run by myself (dizzy-t) and Adrian. I will look forward to adding your details to the spreadsheet.::thanx: PS, sadly the questionaire did not come out, so if you want me to add your details to the spreadsheet here are the questions that are on the form. A). Model Number. B). Chassis Number. C). Date of Manufacture. D). Engine Make. E). Engine Serial Number. F). Military Reg. G). Civilian Reg. H). Cab (Original?) I). Cab Type.(Open/Closed). J). Doby. (Ballast/Wrecker/ ??). K). Modifications. L). Date of Release. M). 2nd Owner. N). 3rd Owner. 0). Location (County/State/Country). P). Condition/Fate. Q). Relevant Notes. R). Photograph (Not full frontal) This questionaire relates to all Diamond T's regardless of variation.
  23. Thanks for the back up Antarmike, didn't know about the 15 second rule for looking in mirrors, but when I was an HGV driver I was driving box van trucks very rare to drive a flatbed. You drive on your mirrors with a box, still cant understand the Yanks with their silly mirrors though, still it was war time, so I suppose they thought that there wouldn't be much traffic to be passed.
  24. A heater wouldn't have gone amiss either, bloody cold, driving back from Enfield Middlesex one October evening way back in 1968, on side lights as no water in battery, switched on head lamps engine stopped ( Enfield to Ashchurch Glos, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) .That was the modern British Army for you
  25. Thats the one, thank you so much, I will write to The BBC and see if they have records of who & where, it would be awfull if they have dumped this fine model, which should be in a museum somehere for all of us to view.:thanx::coffee:
