  1. Forwarded message: Capt Geoffry Winnington-Ball CD (ret) passed away today at 1500 hrs EST after a battle with pneumonia and kidney failure. Geoff left this world surrounded by his family and in a peaceful sleep. As per Geoff's wishes he will be cremated. The family will hold a memorial service this coming weekend, details to follow. Contact Information will be added to this post to allow people to find out where to send cards and condolences. Geoff was a founding member of this site [Tank-Net.org] and his own site MLU. His legacy was to foster camaraderie and esprit de corps amongst soldiers both serving and retired and their supporters around the world. Geoff loved his internet family and they it would appear loved him. There are Universal carriers around the world morning the passage of this warrior, who he would tell you was born a generation too late. Here you will find Geoff and King Sargent enjoying the Norfolk I&I, and I am sure King is with Geoff now squaring the good Capt away on his next tour of duty. Guys, Geoff was one of our pioneers in the Vehicle Collecting hobby. He ran two sites, both Tank Net and Maple Leaf Up. He will be missed by many. --

  5. NEW PICS ADDED TO PHOTOBUCKET, just finished the restoration.... FOR SALE.... http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/lssah2025/1917%20French%2075mm%20Cannon/?albumview=slideshow
  6. It served with the US forces in WW1, sent back to the states as a training cannon after the war, ended up as a lawn ornament at a college fraternity house for many years, was picked up by the previous owner about 10 years ago, restored the first time, 2nd owner had it for about 5 years and had the original wheels and carriage redone, I picked it up and here we are. My boys are a little older, but they love it too...
  7. Picked this up the other day,,,,, going to do a some minor work on it and then it might be available for sale. Has an original French carriage and original wheels that were just redone...live breech, considered a salute device per BATF, fires 75mm blank salute rounds..recuperator tube has been cut and a small sleeve welded in the breech so it can't take long 75 rounds. Currently it is in French field gray, not the camo pattern... Need to paint the wheels, install the shield, attach the sight box to the shield, do some other minor finishing work... http://s141.photobucket.com/albums/r77/ ... =slideshow RESTORED PICS ADDED BELOW!!!!!!
  8. Ok, got to check out my frame number today and it is clearly marked 8533936, which puts my vehicle number at F199036....now I have to redo my F number when my vehicle gets painted....
  9. This was the other mod that 1st A/B recce used. Not my jeep or pics, they are from the web. Shows a bren gun adapter with bren gun instead of a Vickers K. Picture of my repro PLM mount for my recce jeep with Bren adapter. Picture of a real PLM mount on my Humber. Complete PLM mount with a single Vickers GO, which they modified for Recce jeeps.
  10. From what I've found the serial numbers work like this: Chassis numbers and ‘F’ numbers appear to be linked. Chassis numbers started out at 8530000, The last four digits are the vehicle build number. So our HSC would be vehicle 1039. (Chassis number 8531039) this is added to the base ‘F’ Number of F195100. (this was the prototype vehicle from 42) This therefore gives an ‘F’ number of F196139. This appears to apply to the first contract and is verified by Bovington records. Second contract vehicles I am not sure of yet. they have F numbers in a block of 25's.
