  1. While reading the post about Buried Jeeps, I was reading about unexploded bombs still in situ, this brought to mind the new Southgare development in Bath, where a large unexploded bomb was allegedly still in situ next to the site. When I tried a Google search to find the size of the bomb I found the attached document produced for a now defunct development company. In Annex F 'Photographs of bomb damage in Bath' the first photo 25th april 1942 shows Albion Place on the Upper Bristol road. All that remains now is numbers 8 & 9, on the extreme right of the photo, the rest was demolished and is now a Vauxhall dealership. I lived in the top flat of 9 Albion place (you can just see the window) for 15 years, shrapnel damage is still visible. I am having difficulty uploading the document as it is 4 megabytes I will post it as soon as I can reduce it. Or you coulg Google 'unexploded bombs in Bath' and look at @ANNEX D HISTORICAL MAPS, quite interseting reading.
  2. I have just discovered another WW2 american dump, right outside the farm where I keep my Land-Rover, I have driven & walked past this mound countless times without realising what it was. A case of not seeing the wood for the trees!
  3. With 101AB stencilled on the front bumper!
  4. It isn't wise to buy ANY vehicle unseen. If Withams put a photo on their tenders sale it is only 1 view (usually the best) there is also little or no description. Does it have an engine? Is anything major missing etc. You could try Crouch Recovery at Kibworth near Leicester, Dave Crouch gets the pick of the bunch from Withams, and will sort out any faults before he sells anything.
  5. You could try contacting FARG, the French Army Reenactment Group, have a look at www.willyshotchkissjeeps.org for more info.
  6. Thanks for all the help, now that I have all the details I'll contact a mate who is still serving to get me the relevant documents.

  8. I have just dug out the Warriors membership forms and there are no contact details on them. I will be seeing one of their members tomorrow, I'll get the details from him.
  9. Hello Darren Could you please re send your phone No. as I tried ringing you and got someone elses voicemail
  10. Hello Rog8811, I'm not surprised they are still there, I moved down south over 25 years ago, and they were parked up then, as I said earlier he never scrapped anything or sold anything, he even picked up bent nails on building sites he was working on and took them home to straighten them!
  11. Re Ivor Ramsdens 1st Matador gallery dated 24/11/2010, the second photo shows a green Matador in the livery of James Jones timber merchants, this was based at Beckdale sawmill in Helmsley, North Yorkshire, I think this is now owned by the Wall brothers of Ampleforth, if I am correct this is still in regular use. The 4th photo the Matador pictured belonged to Eric Clark, who was (or still is) a plant hire contractor, he also had a Mk1 Militant that was used as a snowplough. I used to know Eric and he rarely scrapped anything so they are probably still in his yard between Kirkbymoorside & the Welburn turning. I have just looked on Google maps and the Militant is visible but a lot of things are in the shadows.
  12. Hello Darren, I was going to ring you tonight. John

  18. Does anyone know where I can find a list of CES for my Leyland Daf 4 Tonner, trawling through the interwebnet doesn't seem to help. I can find full lists for Ferrets & Australian Landys but nothing else. Can anyone help?
  19. Remember that the first person prosecuted under the VCR bill was charged with displaying crossbows on his living room wall. Crossbows were missed off the VCR bill and it is still legal to walk down the street carrying a crossbow. The best way to get comply with the VCR bill is to join a re-enactor group that has public liability insurance, There is a group known as Warriors which is a multi period re-enactment group that covers all conflicts, I will post their details later
  20. Yes that is surpising, maybe the good people of the Warminster area thought it commonplace and did't think of passing the news on.
  21. Hello Adrian, This recent DD was definately uncovered in the past couple of years, at one of our MVT area meetings one of the members, who lives near Warminster brought in the previous weeks local paper with the article in it. The West Wilts area of the MVT has only been running for 4 years. The local paper was the Warminster Journal, which does not have archives on line
  22. I am sure the photo in the paper showed a freshly dug up DD not a BARV, I have been searching for the article but can't find it.
  23. I bought an excellent L85A2 from www.uncompany.com it is the correct weight and parts are interchangable with the real thing. They are based in Hong Kong but delivery is quite quick.
