  1. Tim this is just utterly fantastic work! Steve=Legend. By the looks of things! That tank looks bloody good, and that engine doesn't look in bad shape either, are all the valves free? Regards, Mick.
  2. Alan, You are a very very brave man to be taking on a project of these proportions! Its a really nice story getting it basically for free, but by christ does it need serious work! I really take my hat off to you restoring this, and hopefully it should be a great beast when finished! Rex really is the man for DUKW's and Jimmys, and he helped me out a lot when I was having problems with my GMC motor and head. Good Luck! Regards, Mick.
  3. I'm surprised you say 7-8 mpg, thats about what my Ferret does and I know that the Jimmy was much more economical than what that was, I figured it did about 10-12mpg. May the debate continue...
  4. Now thats an interesting project, I'm sure you're gonna get many people asking questions at shows Steve. Best Regards, Mick.
  5. Congratulations... You're in for a bumpy ride ahead!
  6. Hi all, Yep thats got the 500cc Villiers in, its in a state of restoration at the mo, and the engine cowling is not on it in that pic, if you look its got the kick start at the side, no handle start. Well that must be a posher model then because its got electric start too! I look forward to doing that up, it belongs to the boy, and so do all the mowers. I'm not really keen on the mowers much but I think this one should be an interesting project. Thanks and Regards, Mick.

  8. The boys Land Rover. LOTS of old lawnmowers and junk as you can see... Regards, Mick.
  9. Right just a quick think: Me and Tyler share the same shed, so: Tylers mums Moggy Traveller Tylers LWB Series 2 Sons SWB Series 3 Ferret Mk1 15 Vintage Lawnmowers Spares Rubbish My work stuff Tyres Wood Bonser Truck. Pics to follow! Regards, Mick.
  10. Hey Chris, Yes it sure was a good deal, I had browsed before and found others that were far more. You still have to search deep into the pocket for £350!! I bought a generator and a few other bits like new distributor for it because they seem worthy parts to have. We shall have to try the GCP trick..... Thanks, Mick.
  11. Thanks for that Chris, sometimes the transmission can slip anyway, in 2nd she sometimes slips so I think its worth getting an new transmission anyway. At Beltring as far as I can remember Marcus Glenn had one at a show price of £350. A bit pricey I know....
  12. I apologise Clive I shall rephrase! If I see one of those Ferrets with that army number. So what did these Ferrets do in 1966?
  13. Brilliant Film!! Especially with the Landy right at the end!! :-D
  14. Chris its a shame that they are not in the list of preserved vehicles, it would make my day just to make the owners day showing them a pic of their vehicle in service. Sorry Clive I don't know of any of those Ferrets, there is a 2/4 that sometimes visits Duxford, and on one of the road run rallies there is another 2/4 so next time we see them we shall have to see if the owners have any older pictures of them. Do any of you lot got to Duxford? Me, Tyler, and Steve Ryan and a few others joined up in a convoy for the 2006 bash, it was a lot of fun steaming the Ferret about and then learning that the Jeeps were miles behind! :-D Everyone voted that we go in front, definitely a bad idea!! Richard Grosvenor was going to come but unfortunately circumstances hindered it. It would be nice to get more of us met up at that show because it is damn good. I'll have to find the Ferret Heaven group on Yahoo. Thanks and Regards, Mick.
  15. Jesus Lee ear defenders are always used in the beast, I'm already half deaf in my right ear from just generally loud motorbikes, shooting and sometimes the Ferret. We only went on a little journey the other day and I accidentally left my ear defenders in the shed, bloody hell my ears were ringing when we got back! I think I shall treat ours to a new transmission sooner or later because its a bit whiny. Hopefully with a new tranny it should be much quieter. So yep I think that soon the intercom sounds like a good idea. Mick.
  16. http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f396/MAGFERRET/DaimlerFerret00DC12.jpg[/img] 33 BA 53 soon to follow
  17. I know how you feel Lee, 33BA53 is very close to mine 33 BA 64. It would really make my day to get a picture of it. I shall scan in some copies if possible ASAP. Thanks and Regards, Mick.
  18. Hi all, If Ferret 33 BA 53 or 00 DC 12 are out there in private hands, I have a picture of each. They are in service photos, and 00 DC 12 was taken in July 1963, whilst in Benghazi with the 14th/20th Kings Hussars. I'm afraid I don't know much about 33 BA 53, it doesn't show much of the vehicle and it was obviously a posed shot but its a nice photo of the Ferret and crew. I can get these photos reproduced if you want one, I would imagine it would cost about £6.50. Thanks and Regards, Mick.
  19. We have never really used the intercom in the ferret. I just can't really be asked with it, the boy just shouts me out at junctions. So seen as I have no experience of the Ferret intercom, can it still be heard over the engine and transmission? :? Mick.
  20. I think a 432 is going to become reality for me very soon
  21. I sometimes go past Pounds, I have tried to get closer many times! About 2 years back we spotted 2 humungous type amphibious things, a bluey coloured Chieftain, and a few landing craft carcuses. Apart from that it just looks like muddy slop now, I remember in one of my After The Battle mags too there are a few pics of Pounds vehicles, Churchills, Yank kit, Shermans, all sorts. Its such a shame loads more wasn't saved. Thanks and Regards, Mick.
  22. yep Rick Operation Hornby!! :-D
  23. That looks bloody horrible!! :-o
