  4. Hello Can anyone help me identify my Austin K2 GS history a bit more? The chassis plate on the body says "vehicle number" 38RH76 and chassis number 47122. rebuilt 1/52 M.T.R.S number B/265 Does anyone know anyhistory or where i could possibly find out? Regards Colin
  5. Quite agree, it makes my blood boil, but you cant tell some of them!?\!
  6. This thread was posted on the wwiireenacting website and some of them said "good on them" and "why not?" As a reenactor first and military vehicle owner second, and having owned a Dingo, i was quite disgusted with the attitude of them! Its nice to be on a site where the contributors are sensible! Colin
  7. Lasy year i bought a "Rupert" a WW2 hessian dummy which they threw out of aircraft on D-Day with a small parachute to confuse the enemy for £1.50! sadly less the parachute> What made it even better was a known WW2 dealer had been round before me and missed it :cool2: Colin
  8. Hello Jack Any room for a 1943 Austin K2 GS lorry badged up as Dorsetshire regt, put me right behind exocet's Dingo and it'll look great, 2 Dorsethire regt vehicles together, after all you need some British vehicles as we were in WW2:D Colin
  9. Where and when were these photos taken? i see a Bren carrier in one of them!:-) Colin
  10. Hi I was there too on Sunday & Monday with my Austin K2 GS truck, i asked the director/producer and he said they are doing it for the REME and will possibly try to sell it to various museums and possibly TV companies. They have never done anything like this before, and hope to possibly make some more in the future based on other veterans stories if the demand is there! Pictures are of "Lucy" with my field office display for the filming, but sadly we were to old to be extras.... i'm on the far left with "MM" winner Wally Harris on which the film was based. Colin
  11. Hello Where abouts in Andover is that? i live in Andover and thought i had seen most of what there is around here! just interested thats all as my interest lies in WW2 vehicles Colin
  12. Hello Iain Uniform is WW1 pattern woolen serge service dress (SD) jacket with SD cap, standard for other ranks (OR's). Trousers are woolen riding breeches, again standard for mounted units. Leather ammunition bandolier as already mentioned by someone, finished off with "ammo" boots probably with standard 32 studs per boot! Other pic shows KD (kharki drill) hot climate uniform. Hope this helps a bit Colin
  13. Get them all the time here in Andover, and more so in Hurstbourne Tarrant where i work, them and Chinooks come over the hills and right above the garage at roof level, gets boring seeing them now:) Although the Hurricane buzzing by in the morning and coming back that late afternoon made up for it:-D Colin
  14. Hello Usually with British clothing of WW2 the higher the number the larger the item, i have a large collection of British battle dress, and i know this is true for BD. Sometimes the stated size doesnt necessarily mean it will fit:nut: i have 2 blouses that both fit me, one is size 10 the other size 13. The only real way is to try it on, or get the owner to measure it for you. Dont forget items that go over the uniform are usually bigger than the stated size, such as denims, jerkins, smocks etc :nut: Confused yet? Colin
  15. Hello Thats a British winter ski/mountain cap, cant think of the correct name at the moment, but used by ski troops & mountain troops. Colin
  16. Hi again My old Armstrong Siddley with mickey mouse but no div badges Colin
  17. Hello Not sure about mid bronze green, although early war military vehicles were a brown colour, kahki drab i think? and Mickey Mouse didnt come in until 1943. We painted my father in laws Austin 16 in standard matt green (cant remember colour) with "M" number either side of the bonnet in white paint and under the back window. Also had Divisional badge N/S/F & O/S/R with unit number on other wing. Hope this is of help Colin
  18. As a re-enactor of British infantry in this country, i found that very refreshing to see people actually having fun as you said.:-D There is too much elitism by some groups in this country, who in my opinion spoil it by bitching at all the rest:yawn: You only need look on the wwiireenactors forum to see that:nut: I didnt see any of them portraying Japanese troops, do you think it is banned over there, just like it is in Germany to show the swaztica? Colin
  19. I told you to keep that quiet:blush: now everyone knows about it:-D Anyone offered you a CMP yet? Colin (in leather)
  20. Hello Nick Good to see you on here mate:) Dont let that other group try to steal you from us:mad: you have a home with the 4th Dorsets already:D See you on the 6th mate, polished boots and brasses Capt Colin
  21. Hello Radek Just found your thread and an email you sent to me asking for body dimensions. I would love to help, but the body on my K2 is incorrect, and is made of steel not wood, so i dont think it would be much use to you! But if i can help in anyway please ask, i have added some pictures of when i moved the body back so i could fit the spare wheel carrier Colin
  22. Cheeky:-D Your probably right though:blush: Any chance of any info on the 2 event ideas please Geoff? Cheers Capt Colin
  23. Hello Geoff Welcome aboard! havent spoken to you for a while now, any trips planned for next year to Normandy again? We want to go back in the Austin K2 in kit, and see all the sites:) Colin Capt 4th Dorsets
  24. Yep thats my friend Simon who is looking after it at the moment, saw him on Wednesday evening, and he is at Dunsfold this weekend. Colin
  25. I have a 1943 Austin K2 GS truck, it just keeps going & going (it'll break down now i've said that!) I'm British and proud of it:angel: i would never dream of owning a yank vehicle, just like i will never do yank re-enactment, British all the way for me! I'm a motor mechanic by trade, and as long as you maintain them they will keep going, plus they have bags of character! Thats just my personal feelings:-) Colin
