  4. Thanks Steve, Had a look earlier and it does have a pressure switch on the master cylinder. After a light tap with a small hammer the lights went off..... but stuck back on once the pedal was depressed so I'll have to replace it. Many Thanks Richard.
  5. Hello I may be stupid....and this is nothing to do with Military vehicles....but how does the brake light switch on a modern HGV work? I've just brought a Renault Magnum as a toy but when I got it home I noticed the brake lights are stuck on. The brakes themselves are working fine. Today I had a look under the front cowl and after a general wiggle of various things they went off but as soon as I pressed the pedal they stuck on again and no mater where I wiggled afterwards they still stay on. I'm not sure where else to look and what to check so if anyone out there just happens to have experience of Magnum brakes and can offer some advice I would be very grateful. Regards Richard ps.   8. Hello Jack I had the same problem with the Militant. In my case it was the linkages that had seized up and needed lots of freeing off! Good luck Richard
  9. Hi Neil Not really sure how the test will be done. I'm doing a week long intensive training course the week before War & Peace so I haven't done any training yet. ( other than driving the Militant! ) The theory test was easy ( 100% :-D ). The hazard awareness was tricky as the computer cheated and disallowed all points on the double hazard clip :? !!! But luckily I passed. :lol: Regards Richard
  10. Hi Lee, well.. I'm taking my HGV test next month and if that goes well we'll be on the lookout for a Foden FH70 Gun Tractor. Then I'll be able to go a little further afield so next year I might just get there. :wink: Nearly got the FH70 firing, we've tested the pyros but haven't yet tried them in the gun. This is the first test fire,( volume needs to be loud!!) Regards Richard
  11. A very nice load photo's there! I've also wondered why the the Germans never win at least one battle. If I was a German reanacter I would refuse to play dead.   14. Well last Thursday I got a chap from a local agricultural dealer to help remove the offending wheel and free off the stuck brake. But "Mally" had different idea's by "showing her teeth" and breaking his wheel brace on the first nut!! He managed to free that brake quite easily, it was only the linkage that was seized. Problem was after a short test run I found the other three rear brakes were locked on!! Oh bugger!!! The mechanic thought it was the air actuators and they needed to be rebuilt. I didn't!! So I have spent the last 5 evenings under the old girl freeing off every linkage, pivot point and bearing on the entire braking system. And after some blood, lots of sweat and the odd tear of anger, not to mention gallons of penetrating oil the old girls brakes are better than they ever have been. And after a really good test drive tonight ( and enjoyable due to quiet roads as everyone seemed to be watching some sporting event on the tely. England United are playing or something!!) I can report that the brakes are now 100%. Regards Richard. Ps. the best stuff I found to free the bits off is a stuff called "Duck Oil" it's brilliant, it's very thin so creeps in and frees everything off really quickly.
  15. Hello Guys, Sorry I will not be coming tomorrow, even though after speaking to the organisers it would have been fine to take the ZIL. It wouldn't have been much fun taking the ZIL in this heat any way as it's heater has only two settings, HOT and VERY HOT!! Add to that it's very busy in the shop at the minute so even if the Militant was 100% I probably wouldn't have been able to go. Hope you all have a nice day in the heat. I will be sat in front of a nice cold fan drinking lots of ice cold water! :wink: Regards Richard

  17. What I've found to make it abit easier is to click the button that says "mark all post read". After that when there is a new post in a topic there will be a little icon saying "new" next to it. Clicking that will take you straight to the new post. True I preferred the old "post's since last visit" button better but the new site does have some interesting little tricks on it. The stats are good. Oddball and Jack, over two hours on here!! Damn! You need to get out more!! :wink: :wink: :lol: Regards Richard
  18. Thanks Neil and Richard for your replies. I just found the lubrication chart in the hand book :oops: . OC 600 is for the rear hubs. OEP 220 is for front and rear axles. Now I'm totally ignorant when it comes to oil grades ( some would say in other things as well!! ) If I go to our local agricultural dealer and ask for OC 600 would they know what I'm on about? Saying that I think this is discussed somewhere else on here, I'll have a look. Neil, you're totally right about the Militant. It's a great truck to drive and I have to say I prefer it to a more modern car. I'm just so annoyed that I won't be able to get to Duxford with it! Ah well! Richard

Hello guys, Unfortunately I will not be able to make it in the Militant. :cry: The brakes sticking on shouldn't be a problem and hopefully will be sorted out on Thursday but today I've noticed some serious cracking in one of the NOS tyres and I just can't risk having a blow out. The Ferret is entered and so is the Land Rover but the plan was to take the Ferret on the Militant if I didn't take the FH70 and the LR is only entered as a support vehicle. Add to the fact that it's very busy in the shop it's looking unlikly that I'll make it at all!! :cry: :cry: :cry: I might ring Duxford up and see if I could take the ZIL instead but I would think that they don't like late changes.   20. Well I think the reason why the oil came out has been found. The brakes on that wheel are sticking and the drum and hub had got a bit hot. I suppose it's to be expected with it standing for a while. I've had to get someone to come and do the job though as there is no-way I can manage to take the wheel off on my own. I've also found how to check the hub oil level but haven't found out the correct type of oil to use. Any ideas, anyone? :shock: Regards Richard
  21. Hello I took the Militant for it's first run after being repainted today. All was well until I returned home and checked round to see if anything had broken, stuck on or fallen off! But one of the rear wheels had quite a bit of oil around it . Closer inspection revealed a leaking wheel hub grease nipple/lubricator which shouldn't be too much trouble to repair ( famous last words!!) but the question is; what type of oil to put back in and how do I check the level? Many thanks in advance Richard

  24. but that's no excuses for not keeping then tip-top! :wink: :lol: Saying that I would never take one of my vehicles for a road worthiness test again. For a start the tester tries to make out your doing something wrong and underhand by having it test exempt. ( or at least the one I got did!) And secondly it's very poor value. A normal 3 axle rigid test is about £54 and you get a pass certificate if its all good. A road worthiness test is about £65 and you get nothing not even a scrap of paper to say it's OK!!
