  1. I maybe stupid but.......is there a correct way to mark up a vehicle as if it was being used by the United Nations? Reason for this is my ZIL was intended to be used by the UN. It was sprayed white, but was never used. I've decided that I'm not going to sell the ZIL (the philistines just want smash it up off road!! ) but as every other ZIL 131 in the country is green with a red star on the doors I would like mine to be a little bit different, hence the UN colour scheme. I know it's White with UN on the doors (and possibly also on the bonnet) but do they carry any other markings on them? Regards Richard
  2. I wish I could Lee ! I think it would just be a little too far. I'll have to see how I get on taking it to Duxford. If that goes to plan, then next year maybe? 8) Regards Richard
  3. Hello Larry Yes you can insure a vehicle without it being MOT'ed. Our FH70 Howitzer is insured Fully Comp with Footman James. We weren't going to as when it's being towed on the road it would almost certainly be covered on the Militants policy. But it was while moving it at a show under it's own power where we were worried. What would happen if we squashed a member of the public or bumped someones car*. It's insured under it's frame/chassis number as it couldn't be registered as a vehicle in it's own right. Regards Richard *True Story. Someone at the place we got the FH70 from was telling us about a member of staff who "Knew how to drive one of them guns". He jumped into the seat, went tearing up the road, spun it round in front of the workshop and went over the top of someone prized classic car, removing the roof in process!! He left the firm shortly afterwards
  4. Oh Praying!.....I was thinking of something more unsavory.  Richard Ps. Good luck with the Stalwart tomorrow
  5. Dare we ask what you've been doing on your knees trying to earn £6000.  Richard
  6. Ta Da!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Albion-BY5-Boat-Carrier_W0QQitemZ4625389165QQcategoryZ122307QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I think this is the one! regards Richard
  7. Thanks Karoshi 8) , Why can't I ever find information about something I'm looking for on the net! When I was thinking of buying a Humber Pig, I put in "search for Humber Pig". What did I get? Pig breeders `Up North!! Regards Richard
  8. Hello Neil Good point. There is three different vehicles used for the photos. The first photo is the one I was looking at buying , I think taken recently in this country. The following 9 pictures are of it while it was in Germany. I had the same pictures emailed to me over a year ago by the original seller. I have no idea what picture number 11 is! And the final picture is different ZIL 131 with a radio body fitted, note the lack a front winch. It's still a nice looking truck but I would rather have had it at £2000! Regards Richard
  9. Hello I may be stupid ( and this may be a very stupid question) but.... Why has Heineken got the old U.S.S.R. Red Star with a white outline as their logo? :? regards Richard ( I am NOT watching the football, it's just on in the background  )
  10. It's just popped up on EBay for £5450!!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4626325521&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT Blimey!! :? Regards Richard
  11. Hello guys, I was talking to a chap at a show last year who'd got a Stalwart. As well as bouncing over curbs and cutting corners to try spin the wheel on loose gravel he also said not to change gear while turning a corner ( but I can't remember why  ). He recommended doing the same with the Ferret. Regards Richard
  12. Hello Neil, Oh yes.. I'll be at Duxford. ( Hopefully! ) Should be a good day out. It's true what you say about the Militants speed being the same no matter how it's loaded. Even the FH70 doesn't cause it any problems. Which considering that the Foden FH70 Tractor has nearly twice the horse power of the Militant it just shows how much grunt the AEC engine has. Regards Richard
  13. You wouldn't believe how many people passed their Class 2 test on a Mk1 Militant. I guess it was because the Militant separated the men from the boys!! Regards Richard
  14. Richard, Guess we will have some confusion from now on then  Richard, the other one Well Richard and Richard, I'm now totally confused ..what...me...who...I don't know? Regards Richard  ( age before beauty and all that ! )
  15. Hello Mick That's the day before Duxford's MV show isn't it? If it is I'll be polishing me toys and "blacking" their wheels that day! Regards Richard
  16. Drive! I love driving my MV's. I try and take mine for a run every week when the weathers good if I can. Saving that, the furthest I've gone in the Militant is about 85 miles and I think with that direct injection lump thumping away at the side of me that's about far enough! I've done about the same with the ZIL on our local road run. But apart from the heat from the engine and the fact that ZIL heaters only have two settings ( hot and very hot ) I would take it further. It was returning just under 6 MPG which I thought was quite good.. The way I look at fuel consumption is when the tank's empty, fill it back up again. You're not using then every day and a night out probably cost as much as a tank of fuel! I've never traveled to a show in convoy but hopefully will this year and I think it will be nice to have other vehicle of the same type, age and speed around me. Regards Richard
  17. Hello People! I once heard someone say "You don't need all the tools, you just need the right tools" I thought it was a bit stupid and pointless as well! :? Get a Machine Mart catalogue, work your way through it ticking what you want and leave it somewhere obvious so loved ones will see it at Christmas and birthday times! Regards Richard ( the other one )
  18. Oh..hang on.. it's an air-freshener!! Sorry... my bad  Richard
  19. Look! I took some pictures today of my sisters Renault Clio so I could list it on Ebay. I was looking at the pictures tonight and noticed an "orb" in this one  Richard
  20. Hello, Well I've heard a couple of reasons from different people, one was that visitor numbers were very low and another was the site and buildings had been under maintained for years and then large amounts of asbestos were found in the building and it would have cost too much to put it right. But I suppose it was a mixture of both really. Regards Richard
  21. Hello Ray, Glad to see you here. It's quite good isn't it? Regards Richard
  22. Hooray for me!! I was going to say the same as Matt about chassis numbers, but......  Regards Richard
  23. Hello Jack, Hmmm....Looks interesting. Is it attached to the leaf spring? If it is, could it be some sort of shock absorber? :? Regards Richard
  24. Hi Tyler, I didn't know if I click on the image it makes it bigger. I can now see it's got 5 roof lights so about 75'-80' long is about right . So it looks like it's the right building. Regards Richard
  25. Hello Tyler, That would certainly look an impressive convoy. Cruising speed of the Militant is about 25-30mph, but it seems alot faster when your in it but alot slower when your behind it no doubt! Regards Richard
