  1. hmm something amiss, he says it is an 11,3 and ten ton 7 ton crane...but I am not sure he knows what he has, just that he has been using it for years...very interesting...perhaps i can get engine numbers and things would that help identify it...
  2. okay, thanks richard, I have seen and read a few of the matador specs and i was thinking it was a 6x6 coles crane with the 11.3 diesel but cant quite confirm that..I am getting a few more pictures this week and will talk with my mechanics on wednesday for their views...
  3. The regulations as printed... 22. - (1) Any mobile crane that is used on roads must not - (a) carry any load; or (b) transport any goods or burden. (2) But that is subject to paragraphs 23 and 24. 23. A mobile crane may carry its own necessary gear and equipment. 24. A mobile crane may lift or transport goods or burden in the course of carrying out lifting operations. Restriction on towing trailers 25. A mobile crane must not tow any trailer.
  4. that s why I love this site...so much knowledge, I have just spent an hour and a half trawling throught regulations for use etc re trailers and you are spot on...they cannot tow a trailer, which makes those who use a berliet mobile crane whcih can tow 20 tons to tow anything are breaking the law...that is very very useful information indeed...thanks antarmike... anyway back to the question are parts easy to get hold of...and how easy are they to maintain...anyone got experience of them...
  5. I am thinking of buying a 6x6 AEC matador running but in need of a good work over...are parts available, are there any experts who can help me work on them...are there any manuals i can get etc etc...am i being crazy, I want to use the crane regularly but I also want to use the truck for towing my stalwart about will it tow 11 tons....if so at what speed?
  6. thats a very odd place to park up Neil is that her permanent home in the 'scrape' why in a hollow, is there some reason for it and why the fox in there too, assuming it is a fox...
  7. you just contact your council and ask the question....not sure you will get a rates free deal but you may get a substantial discount
  8. hmm towing 9 tons...i presume you mean on a fairly regular basis...if that is the case then i think your options are fairly limited and i would realisitically go for an ex commercial truck rather than a military one to be honest. military trucks carry a lot of additional weight with the all wheel drive and are not really that practical for moving things heavy at commercial pace and regularity..., great in the mud but i guess you will on road most of the time.. But not as much fun i am sure...what sort of journeys are yopu doing and what time pressures do you have etc on getting to locations etc and how many miles do you plan to do.... I assume you have your HGV or C1+E
  9. neil might just do that one of these days, take one of my toys for a weekend out or something...just for the fun of it..
  10. Okay we are up and running...I have sent the first pass of the details i need to stat this...didnt want to be volunteering to administer it but looks like i have opened my big mouth and need to see it through... I dont think we want to post peoples details on the forum even in secure locations but i will be planning to send out a plastic waterproof data sheet with names and numbers only and area help can be offered. For those interested, but with few skills or machines even local knowledge can be useful, so calling someone nearby who knows someone who can offer this and that kind of help is useful... I would like to see a listing on the forum for the emergency help group...where people could post when help was given etc...and people could find out how to join the group...I will PM lee and ask his advise on this... So those who want to help and can help even if its just a body or access to yellow pages its going to be useful to someone in a bit of a pickle...get a pm to me Oh by the way guys this should only be used for trips in your military vehicles, not for days out in the car etc...but I gues you all know that...
  11. okay this is getting some momentum...can you guys all PM me and i will pm you my plans..my details, etc so you know i am here and real and I will log everyones names and locations, type of help available and send it to all those who are in the group....I would much prefer it to be run by the forum but there seems little or no interest in doing it....... We need a name for the group I guess...hey guys can we use the HMVF name as our group heading, ie HMVF emergency help group...could we have a new heading for it,,,not sure it justifies that just yet but there does seem a good deal of interest...
  12. I would still forget...I still forget the hand brake on my stolly after all these years...
  13. okay...this sounds a pain...I would forget...
  14. neil what do you mean 'float the crank'....?
  15. Hmm, these are important machines becuase of the part they played in human history, not the fact that they are the pride and joy of the restorer...thats mostly just a personal issue...
  16. I want to be there to watch that....I think people should see these machines and have some memory of what the last war was like...never let us forget what those boys went through for our supposed freedom....this is the real statement that i think you are trying to convey...the machine is after all just that. Its what it did for our race that is really important. Oil and PETROL will never run out, its a complete fallacy, when it is so expensive to extract and most other forms of transport are electric only a few slected classic vehicles will run on petrol produced specially for them. Made either artificially or from the remaining reserves..
  17. the jag engines if kept with good oil pressure and clean ish water are very reliable....if you lose oil pressure stop immediately and investigate. I would, if it is possible fit an inline oil cooler to add more oil, and help with the cooling by fitting some additional piping to an adjacent water cooler, maybe one situated outside, maybe....would certainly improve reliability in my opinion, if the head overheats warping is the name of the game and a real pain...skimming works sometimes but many times not. I would also consider having the head ported to give it better flow through and improve its power delivery so reducing the engine revs for a given power level...dont port for revs port for low down torque... I have owned many jags and only ever had one problem, i drove one with low oil pressure...silly me buggered the engine...total rebuild needed, in winter in pouring rain, but ran beautifully after that...
  18. The museum should not buy but hire it for say the next 30 years on the assumption that they will look after it and this includes moving it to keep it working as a live machine... I would resist selling to them if I could, but thats because i dont need the money, if you do then its a mute point....sell it to some other collector who will use it... although in all honesty its not worth the worry, once its gone its gone, let others worry about it, it is after all only a machine...no matter how rare...
  19. Well we have ten interested parties, one or two who do not understand the idea and a few more still sitting on the fence I guess. Seems like its a cause that needs a bit more work.
  20. NOW THATS AN INTERESTING IDEA TOO. The problem is some people who would help generally cant and so dont get the benefit. To be sure there may be little people can do. I certainly have never been called by the kettle club members but its nice to know when i am out there is someone local who I could call if I am stuck...
  21. No it would not be published on the forum but via a leaflet sent to known members home address, you would never publish it on a forum, come on no one is that daft and its not what I said, It would take a little admin but it works for the kettle club and clearly for others...
  22. agree totally as long as you dont get paid for the job then there is no reward. A donation to your fuel fund is nothing to do with the help you give.. Perhaps if i start a list, get an idea of who wants to be part of it then we can make a decision... Paul Ob1...Alton, Guildford areas...
  23. 140,000 zloty about 30k pounds...
  24. Got the first of my two new urals 375 d's running on her main tank and with the CTIS working...they are a dream to drive, much nicer and more powerful than the zil 131... The stars are unbelievable, had the first one running on her main tank today, shes only done 168 miles..and that was done in 1986 when she was refurbished...got a few little things to sort thought windscreen wiper switch, broke it, and the air guage isnt registering...but the air is there...will have to chek if they are blocked or something...engine is very sweet though...not even run in... Just got to get the electrical items working and all will be well on these new vehicles...will have them all registered as well next week, if all goes well...
  25. i love going to have a look at what they have...not time these days though...
