  1. crikey I am pretty certain i dont run any of my toys for their economical running..does anyone...
  2. sounds like you were having fun last night...posting pictures and things
  3. I think it was in the region of 900 and the last price I heard was £99,000 for the last few... will be out playing with my flawed but brilliant stalwart this weekend on slab common bordon...
  4. I really do ask the question again...what can do the stalwarts job today...name me a single vehicle that can....we know its faults and its difficulties but what can cover its job...nothing in my eyes, not a single vehicle. great discussion by the way...I do think that they should have made the traction system just that bit more substantial and a bit more maintainable but not totally sure how...without compromising other areas of the design...still know of no other offroad vehicle aside from a pajero that goes over the bumps as smotthly as a stalwart..
  5. yes very nice machine but got to agree what is that gear change all about...the big problem with all of these russian toys is that they are so damn wide...too wide...and so only allowed off road...will let you know when I get one...
  6. I think people are missing the point, when it was in the water it was intended to be secure away from enemy lines and not under fire, it didnt really need speed, can you see a dukw going landwise where a stlawart can go...give me any vehicle that can swim take a 5 tons load, unload itself if it has a crane and go virtually anywhere.including in water, on land...the only other solution was a helicopter and they won...not the dukw..the stalwart is unique and even today nothing can do what it can...so they got something right...agree a diesel in todays world would have been better but the b series engien was in everything in the 50's/60's easy to knock it now but then, it was the only choice...
  7. it was mostly and afterthought with the fuel supply, they had all the stollies then helicopters came ion and resupply was not needed by road, well not for munitions rtheir main task, this left I think 900 stollies with nothing to do so some clever spark dreamt up using them for fuel supply, get it spark...hehehe... still great trucks even if it could and should have been done a bit better even in those days...
  8. excellent love it...its what we live for...
  9. not totally sure yet...will know end of this month...but i really think the mtlb is a cracking little machine...
  10. I dont think its 2500 neil, she wouldnt go at all...think its closer to 3500 but cant remember myself...at least with the stolly you have two modes of propulsion even if it is from the same engine...nd you can steer using just the wheels, so I am told as I have never had the nerve to take mine swimming just yet...would love to but just never got up the courage... but with only 240bhp and pushing 10 tons with most of that below the water line, 6 knots isnt bad at all...
  11. the ho 229 was gorings favourite of the wunder weapons or whatever they called them...and yes it was planned to make it have enough range to reach the US...as to research on flying wings the UK, the US the french and the germans were stuying designs all at the same time..
  12. Aberdeen + 1... Eastbourne area Guildford/alton Colwyn Bay. North Cheshire... Harpenden now added... Clydebank, nr Glasgow West Sussex North Yorkshire and Normandy France added. Devon and Cornwall borders... Staffs Derbyshire borders... Leicester/northants area West Sussex Portsmouth and Chichester.. Tring/ Hertfordshire Possibly Leek, Staffs/derbyshire border... Aldershot... I will be preparing our forms for the emrgency group members next week as it does look like we will get the magic 20 people on board... The list will go out with names and numbers/ location and the type of help available...I will categorise this in some way... and all to be printed on a sealed plastic sheet. THe list will go to members ofthe mergency group for now and no one else. SO if you want on get your names in boys and girls PM me
  13. will be there with the boys now so might have the stalwart and a zil and my ural to play with...just got to get transport sorted out...
  14. Aberdeen + 1... Eastbourne area Guildford/alton Colwyn Bay. North Cheshire... Harpenden now added... Clydebank, nr Glasgow West Sussex North Yorkshire and Normandy France added. Devon and Cornwall borders... Staffs Derbyshire borders... Leicester/northants area West Sussex Portsmouth and Chichester.. we are nearing the magic 20, looks like this is going to be a runner. i know its a bit new for some but its only and emergency help line, we all know what it is like to be stuck somewhere without any real help, i know some can call the AA/RAC and that is fine but if its over 3.4 tons your stuffed...and a quick call to some one local can be a god send... anyway hopefully this is a long term project and we will see more and more people coming on board...
  15. Staffs Derbyshire borders... Numbers growing steadily....I would expect people to call you only in an emergency and those who are called to offer what help they can...if its just a cup of tea fine, if its a scammel and trailer and full recovery to a temporary safe site where repairs can be completed then even better...but as i say this is just a bunch of us who will help in some way if the need arises...
  16. Growing every day...perhaps HMVF will make this a sticky eventually... Aberdeen Eastbourne area Guildford/alton Colwyn Bay. North Cheshire... Harpenden now added... Clydesdale, nr Glasgow West Sussex North Yorkshire and Normandy France added. Devon and Cornwall borders...
  17. thats not a bmp, its funny i am off to look at purchasing a few of these...am going next month...
  18. the list is growing...come on peeps, if you can offer a bit of help and dont mind doing so...its only for emergencies and not for regular support...and only for fellow members, the list so far... Aberdeen Eastbourne area Guildford/alton Colwyn Bay. North Cheshire... Harpenden now added... Clydesdale, nr Glasgow West Sussex North Yorkshire and Normandy France added.
  19. looking good tony I have pencilled these dates in cant wait to be trailing down with my stolly and ural...will be a lot of fun...hope to have my low loader ready by then and so will definitely bring at least two toys...
  20. Aberdeen Eastbourne area Guildford/alton Colwyn Bay. North Cheshire... Harpenden now added... Clydesdale, nr Glasgow West Sussex North Yorkshire and Normandy France added. I will be sending out a sheet to those on the list, of those on the list...no one else at this stage, if we reach about 20 names then i will keep it going...if you want to be added to the list PM me for the details..
  21. hey this looks good, i think the 59 refers to litres or gallons per minute...and the 3592 the pressure but i cant guarantee that...how much do you want for it...i think we can make that fit...does it have a 4 bolt flange on the pto side...
  22. hi guys, well the idea is off the ground, we have a hand full of members signed up and we have coverage of the folowing areas... Aberdeen Eastbourne area Guildford/alton Colwyn Bay. North Cheshire... not total coverage but its a start...who else is going to sign up, its a plan to help some of our fellow drivers if they find themselves somewhere away from home and in need of local support...it may not be anything more than access to a yellow pages or use of your low loader (if you have one) and it is totally voluntary but if you can and would want to help then lets here from you...looks LIKE I AM GOING TO HAVE TO DO THE ADMIN FOR NOW BUT HAPPY TO DO THAT FOR A BIT...
  23. ah okay so you can only drive a combination of 12 tons...hmm the zil will be around 4-6 tons depending upon specs and kit fitted...if your van is 9 tons fully laden you would have only 3 tons to be playing with...unless of course you go for a pre 60's truck...hmm okay zil 157 isnt strong enough, and the kraz and early Maz trucks too rare... I have to say I think the matadors are cracking machines but do any of the pre 60's units have power steering...
  24. if you are considering a US truck then why not a russian one equally interesting, and usually with a bit of individuality thrown in too...a ural 375 d early 70's model, or a zil 131, I know where there is a part converted (diesel engine is in just the plumbing and other type of work to be done...that will tow 9 tons easily..., it has air brakes, can work your truck and they are not bad off road 6 x 6 or 6 x 4 which makes them not bad on road too...especially if you get the tyres changed to michelins or goodyears.. you could then fit a box body on the back of the zil and use that for storage of a generator or as more living space...or an office or workshop etc..pm if you want mroe detail....
  25. will get the details off it for you,,,it needs about 220 bar and around 70 litrew perminute to work at its best I think.. happy to tqake pictures will do on friday as I am, away for a couple of days,...
