  1. There has been lots of discussions on various sites regarding the problems with the Oshkosh (Kings) trailers, apparently all the rollovers have occured at low speeds and if I remember correctly theres been a problem with the trailer hydraulics causing them to lean/fail quite badly, obviously with 60/70 tons on board this has disastrous results. As for recovery, the Army has the equipment and expertise but I would think it's due to the fact that all recovery is carried out by civilian recovery contractors, a very sore point with Army recovery mechanics:mad:
  2. Just a couple of my pics of a Sherman Barv at the Portsmouth D Day Museum.
  3. As my username suggests, in the REME (Army).
  4. I know a recovery mechanic who was there and was involved in it's recovery, I've watched a very poor quality grainy video of the job, if I remember correctly after turning over a couple of times while being winched out it finally appeared out of the water on it's wheels (with the obvious damage)
  5. On exercise in Germany (munsterlager) there are regularly a band of merry Germans who tip up to photograph and video all the that the British Army has to offer in Armour and wheeled vehicles, they always record the vehicles coming off the rail flats then move up to various points on the range roads to take more video/photos, nobody has every batted an eyelid to my knowledge. 1 kindly German even burned a disk of everything he had from 1 particular exercise for me.
  6. I agree British Armour should be given top priority however Tiger 131 is very popular and I think it should be kept in full running condition, everytime I visit the museum I never tire of seeing it.
  7. Not knowing much about this subject, silly old me thought it was in it's current display position, it looks like it has been put in that position so it looks like it's "taking off" I didn't realise the snow had caused that.:red:
  8. Didn't know that, cheers for the info.:-D
  9. Saw this one at the Bovington Tank Museum looking a bit sorry for itself in a corner of the dead vehicle park.
  10. The GMC red top safety trucks were sold off at auction in Calgary, the MoD has purchased a newer model of the GMC vehicles however they've purchased patrol engined models???? go figure. BATUS has already taken delivery of the first batch with more to follow.
  11. I have a photo of this one somewhere, I'll dig it and put it on here.
  12. Memory fades with age Richard, can't remember after Selwoods did the first batch. I'll check at work tomorrow:idea:
  13. I enjoyed it, some good footage on the restoration. Edited to add, worth the 12 quid I paid about 3 years ago from the museum.
  14. He's a very good friend of mine, your correct the U bolts had worked loose and caused the front axle to ermmm "fall off", no fault of his own or REME VM's, the Foden was picked up from the port having been through ABRO for a mid life rebuild and was supposedly fully fit. The guy in question was very seriously injured but made a full recovery (no pun intended) and is still serving in the job. I have pics I'll post a couple when I dig them out.
  15. Nearly correct Richard, 96 Tonne. Nice pics by the way, not seen any of the Eka kit taken apart like that.
  16. I must be missing something, it's got to be one of the worst programmes in TV. Standing by to get flamed.
  17. Yep, certainly will mate, lots of pics.
  18. I think there is all sorts of hoops you have to jump through to get kit back, not just a case of, oi get that f%$king tank on that ship.:cool2:
  19. No mate it went to Marchwood then no idea, probably going to end up as some gate guard or museum piece.
  20. Here is one of my photos of the T55 you last saw on a lowloader, this was taken aboard the MV Eddystone as it stopped in Cyprus to offload/pickup vehicles.
  21. Also fitted to the latest version of the Snatch Land Rover, called Vixen.
