  1. Most likely with traces of the original paint, what type of primer are you using (Cellulose, or Xylene based one) ? Cheers Richard
  2. Hi Bit of help please, the fuel filter NRC9786, what thread size are the inlet and outlet and what size pipe is it designed for ? Thinking about using one for my MWC instead of a cheap plastic one Cheers Richard
  3. Hi I have reduced the size of the T port handle and it looks a lot better Also made a bit more progress on the split pillow/plummer block that supports the front end of the power pump It is made from two heavy duty trailer jockey wheel clamps that I sliced and welded together. The ends were faced by a friends fly cutter and the hole bored out to 2" diameter. brass bits on top to make it a bit more like an original one (photo of Tomas Higgins MWC) The back end of the power pump is attached and supported by a bracket that is attached to the chassis, this can be seen the photo below (also Tomas Higgins MWC) Just thinking of ways to make this as the power pump I acquired had a simple ring strap, which was used to support the weight of the pump when mounted on the front of the vehicle Cheers Richard
  4. Hi It is called pyramid edging, sometimes it has a small lip on it that can easily be ground of with a flappy disc sander. Here is the link to where got mine from https://www.fhbrundle.co.uk/products/25NOSE2__Pyramid_Non_slip_Nosing_35_x_5_x_3000mm you can probably get it from other suppliers, it is a very good match for the war time type. Cheers Richard
  5. Next installment... Fitted the offside rear mudguard, the plate that sits on top of the mudguard is all bolted bown Made good progress on the "T" port valve that sits on top of the tank, 7/8" BSP inlets ftom the filters and 1" BSP to the tank. A little more work, especially on the handle as it is a bit too big Cheers Richard
  6. Made of fibreglass.... Make a wooden pattern Make a silicone mold Layer up the fibreglass with brass inserts Now I have the pattern, I could get then cast in brass (but that is very expensive) The beauty about using fibreglass, it is light, strong, cheap and waterproof.
  7. Hi Last week I posted some pictures of the filter brackets.... During lockdown I decided to make my own Stellar Filters as they rarely come up for sale and when they do they are very expensive, so trial fitted one of them today ... They are functional although the water that passes through them isn't filtered. I have the choice of straight or elbowed hosetails, I will end up using the elbowed ones as these will attach to the hand pump (I am considering making these). Filter outlet - to "T" port on top of the tank (Next think on my to make list) Back Flushing Drain Valve, couldn't find any siutable ones so had a bit of fun making these, including the adapter for old 3/4" copper pipe (A friend of mine has give be a length of this pipe which has been sitting in the back of his shed for 30+ years) Overall very pleased with the result and still generating loads of brass swarf.
  8. Thanks guys - nice to see who is taking an interest It has been really good to get to do some work on the truck, but lockdown has given me a chance to make some other bits... Next installment on Friday (goanaa - PM sent)
  9. In that last couple of days I got round to doing some of the "just jobs", the ones that always take longer than you think... Drilling large holes in the rear out-riggers to take the rear cross braces, the cross braces are 6mm thick angle section that has has the ends bashed over. and fitting the rear towing eyes threading the pipes that go from the water inlet to the hand pumps and checking that the brass fittings look correct. Nearly finishing off the mudguard angle brackets that attache to the tank. Trial fitting the brackets for the water filters
  10. Hi This arrived in the post last week It is a NOS Power Pump for my truck, It is an early one as it has a dog drive that is designed to fit on the front of an MWC and engage with the Crank Shaft Pulley and the inlet ports are different (this is the early type) On mine it is driven from a gearbox PTO via a chain drive (photo from Tomas Higgins) Fortunately, a long time ago, I acquired the correct inlet port Have also made the 7/8" BSP pipe fittings for the pump outlet. Working out how to make the split pillow/plummer block that holds the pump in place. I have also started work on making my own filters, although I am still looking for hand pumps
  11. Hi Not too much time this week at the "shed", managed to get some painting done and re-fitted thepassenger seat, battery box and base of drivers seat along with making the access panels for the floor pan Next job is making the brackets for the gun mounts
  12. Well... He has plenty of money to spend on his toys The estimated Net Worth of Daniel J Starks is at least $657 Million dollars as of 27 February 2018.
  13. Hi I think we all knew that it would be cancelled, it was a case of when; but the organisers probably cancelled at the last minute so that they can claim any cancellation insurance they had. I wonder what they will do about refunds ? Cheers Richard

  15. Thanks... I hadn't thought of that, will go looking Cheers Richard
  16. Hi I am after a 2" "pipe" support, it is intended to support a 2" bar and not to house a bearing. The closest thing I have found is a split bearing housing which I could machine out to 2" If anyone has any other thoughts on what I could use instead, these would be welcome. Have already thought of using a scrap crank shaft bearing holders Cheers Richard
  17. Hi I am still here... Finally got up to the "shed" , first time since lockdown begun... Truck still there, but a few spiders had decided to take up residence.. Today the floor pan I made a little while ago , got fitted Another installment next week ....
  18. Hi I am looking for a "T" port valve for my MWC. I believe that all the connections are 7/8" BSP, one with these size fittings would be ideal, but a similar valve with 3/4" BSP would be just as good. (I do have the flange which is shown in the second photo) [Also still looking for pumps and filters] Thanks in advance Cheers Richard
  19. Hi I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but due to Covid-19... The National Archive (Kew) are offering free downloads loads, which may be of use to some (I will be having a browse later tonight) see https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ Enjoy Richard
  20. Hi Tomato Ketchup..... Tried many things before settling on this technique, the acid in the ketchup is not aggressive and will slowly remove tarnish etc, [Google it]. Old paint removed with paint stripper first. Also used a cocktail sticks to get into the corners and finished off with liquid brasso and toothbrush. The process does take some time (something that a lot of have at the moment... I wonder why). Attached are a couple of photos of before and after Ironically the damage (slight crack) on the second plate is probably caused by frost. On my Beford MWC, these are mounted next to the (yet to be found) pumps. On a separate note, I wonder why most of the pipe fittings are 7/8" BSP, which is no longer a common size and virtually impossible to find. Even during war time I don't think that this size was often used, except on water bowsers. Cheers Richard
  21. Hi Richard Thanks, most interesting. The passage through looks like it is either side of the "slot" for the pumping lever. I doubt if the casting imperfections would cause any issues and these surfaces are not sealing surfaces. Looking again, the leather seals always run in the barrel section and never enter the lever section (between the arrows in the diagram) Cheers Richard
  22. I'm still looking for these for my MWC.... Nice to see one that has been taken apart, is there any chance you could post a few photos of the internals as I could never work out (from the sectional view) how it actually works as there appears to be no path between the inlet and outlet. Cheers Richard
  23. I believe that this actually happened in Afghanistan !!!!
  24. Hi Martin The pump is an AC1524244 (Engine numbers 2001-70498) after that it is AC1524405. The arm is AC1524071 (Engine numbers 2001-70498) after that it is AC1524424 Sorry - don't know what the difference is .... If it is just the "rubber" valve that has failed, I am pretty sure that a Landrover Series Fuel pump "rubber" valve fits and will do the job. Cheers Richard
  25. This looks like string to attach it and is very similar to and these are from the portable filtering apparatus, described in
