  1. Something to do with A/T missile system(s) ???? Yes very much so!
  2. Neil, that's very disappointing. But if you can get there with a car + tent, then I can take you round with me (provided you don't smoke & only phart occasionally).
  3. It looks to me like an upper section of a 27' mast, but I doubt it can be because you'd be able to see the lower sections telescoped at the bottom of the picture. But I'd guess it is something similar. - nope, not a mast of any sort.
  4. is it the towing bar? for the trailer unit that the ... thing.. is sat on - nope
  5. There were some restraints on bombing: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/bombs01.jpg[/img]
  6. On the second picture, to the right of the chap on the left there appears to be something - (to his right) well spotted it is significant that looks like a hydraulic leg or support brace? yes it does - but nope
  7. There is a Craftsman working - yes on a small mobile Generator - nope Study everything in the photos, there are two significant clues as to the role of this unit.
  8. Location could be Bordon or Arborfield - nope under the tent can be seen the rear of body / tailboard, of a 1 ton truck, Humber 1 ton. - yes There is a Craftsman working on a small mobile -yes workshop - nope The Foreign gentleman could be King of Jordan ? - nope but a good guess
  9. looking at a reme mobile - yes workshop - nope sultan of bruni - nope, good guess he is of that sort of rank from somewhere else catterick garison - nope 1960s - yes
  10. Looking at radio equipment - nope a trailer under the tent - yes He is a representative of a foreign government. - yes but much higher rank than a rep Aldershot - nope 1960's - yes
  11. probably looking at a fox or ferret - nope at bovi - nope as the cap badges were tank reg - yes rougthly in the sixties - yes the civie was being shown the vechicles at a tank sale - nope
  12. Several questions to this one! 1. What are these men looking at? 2. Who is the man in civies? 3. Where were these pictures taken? 4. When was this? There are other questions I could ask, but if I ask them it will then allow most of the answers to the above to fall into place!
  13. Your burger is back? Good grief man pull yourself together, what on earth are you talking about?
  14. I have to confess out of curiosity I let this one run a bit as Richard got in the first post! It is is in fact the Kelvin Mk IV Sounding Machine that was standard equipment with the Royal Navy in 1937. I went to the trouble of removing the labels but, I am not sure if it would have made it any easier seeing it like this?
  15. Any ideas about the date of this machine & its purpose?
  16. Nobody has got it right yet, although Dougiebarder is correct it is a public order issue. Does this help: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/whip56.jpg[/img]
  17. So who is feeling clever (or brave) enough to have a go at these questions? 1. What are these regulations about? 2. Where did they apply? 3. When did they apply? I'll post the answers at the end of the week. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/whip1.jpg[/img] http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/whip2.jpg[/img] http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/whip3.jpg[/img] http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v684/fv1620/whip4.jpg[/img]
  18. This Saracen has the protection added from Op Kremlin 1 & Kremlin 2, worth rescueing of course but not really that rare. Reading the REME SITREPs of 1973/4, the figures vary, but all Saracens went through Op Kn 1 & 2, the maximum figured recorded was 397 Saracens.
  19. It's a Shorland SB301. The improvised windscreen armour is because the original visors & vision blocks were removed before entering RUC to comply with the requirements of the Hunt Report. There were only 3 of this mark in RUC service, MOI 1007, MOI 2688 & MOI 3481. These were withdrawn from service by the end of 1990. The later Shorland APVs were SB401 & had the radiator further forward to accomodate the V8. I suspect this vehicle is MOI 3481. I have pictures of all three vehicles, when they were withdrawn from service, one no longer had windscreen armour & on the other the plate had different characteristics. The riot screens & the rear steps that extend to the rear sides indicate the were used by the SPG (Special Patrol Group) who had particular responsibilities in public order situations.
  20. Ian I have a couple of examples of genuine markings, seen on Rover 11 Ambulances in 1980s. 30 FJ 20 (used to own this one) SE/223 on nearside wing, was attached to Shorncliffe Barracks, Dover. Don't worry about stealing its identity, it now masquerades as having served in N.Ireland & has assumed a new 'history' :shake: 07 FL 46, saw this at an official Bovington event, LOND/74 on offside wing Relatively few vehicles were marked up but at least those are identities that were real.
  21. Neil, dunno off hand that info was taken from a document relating only to UKLF.
  22. Rich, wondered where you've been, have you spent all winter under the tarpaulin as well :-D
  23. Yes it can be difficult to evaluate legitamite info. Extreme or obviously wrong BS can be spotted. But the borderline stuff is more tricky. Last year with my pig I was discussing pig topics with a vet. It turned he served in pigs in Cyprus. I showed him an IWM pic of a Cyprus pig with with the wrong bridge classification. He explained that Makarios made a fuss about certain types of vehicles using bridges in key areas. So miraculously the pigs bridge weights were reclassified to permit them to cross the bridges! Now should I believe that? Well I did eventually because later on in the conversation on a couple of occasions he said "I am sorry I don't know". That made me feel he was genuine, a real BSter would know the answer to everthing & would feel "not knowing" was a weakness.
  24. It is a District marking introduced in 1977 to fit in with the "One Army" concept as a result of the 1975 Defence White Paper. This was to get away from the fancy markings & badges of units to help integrate the TA with the Regulars. 12 signifies the Formation which is 12 Sig Gp(V) 12/3 signifies 36 Sig Regt(V)
