  1. Nope but I can see what you are thinking. What looks like "4" is actually "+"
  2. Not a magnet & is actually PVC Bernard but interesting line of thought. Of all the suggestions so far yours looks the most promising line thought.
  3. Not home, made this an official issue. But not a gear knob

  5. Terry I'm sorry you have such a low opinion of MV enthusiasts. But people can be helpful if they know there is a real problem, you will recall you spent half a day at my place when I sorted out your ignition problems but at the time I didn't know you from Adam. For all I knew you could have also owned a Jeep & a GMC I carry a large bag of electrical test equipment with me to most shows for the explicit purpose of helping people with electrical problems. The last time the bag was in action was to help sort a problem on a WW2 vehicle. It is inevitable that people with similar vehicles of similar eras will gravitate to each other. Very often they have been seeing each other at shows for years. It easy for someone new to the scene to feel excluded. Not because of active discrimination but people in clubs & groups of any sort are not good at recognising newcomers. But that first show you went to I only knew about half of them by sight, but there were several people new to me who I ended up talking to. Other than at very small gatherings, you are unlikely to get vehicle owners going round introducing themselves to someone they haven't seen before unless they happen to be parked next to you. I doesn't necessarily mean they dislike you but they may not be drawn to your vehicle because it holds no particular interest for them. All our interests are different, on another thread someone said that a shedfull of tanks was far more interesting than a shedfull of Land Rovers & Bedfords. To me the attraction is the other way around! I think you may have given up a bit too easily
  6. Andrew sorry not got it under that either, only have a FSJ & a FSL. Seat belts will be difficult. Although I have part numbers it would be very expensive going down that route. Only hope is someone ripping out the inside to convert it into something of their fancy. I suspect most of the ripping out has been done, a bit like the ambulances that are stripped internally, people don't seem to consider that a future owner might want to put it to how it once was. Instead these fittings generally just get dumped.
  7. Hello Phil nice to see you on this forum as well;)
  8. I think I'm on the list. I'm just doing a day trip in the Pig to the museum on the Saturday. I assume its just a case of turning up before 1000? Any passes needed?
  9. Andrew nice to have another Pig around. I'm afraid I can tell you nothing about its unit history only its administrative history. 29 BK 93 Contract No. 6/V/27210 FV1602 ie FFW soft skinned 1 Ton Truck Serial No. 32993 Engine No. 8503 Delivered to 31st B Vehicle Depot Church Broughton Delivery date 17/3/55 Receipt Voucher No. CBR/R/3691 Armoured conversion FV1612 1959-60 (ie Mk 1 Pig) Uparmoured to FV1611 role Sept 1972 – June 1973 (ie Mk 2 Pig) Struck Off Census 6/2/92 I have no picture of it the nearest pics I have are 5 vehicles each side ie 29 BK 88 & 29 BK 98 Dunlop Trakmark is only the diamond shaped vinyl covering. A good way of creating padding is to buy damaged sleeping roll mat. Cut it to shape stick it in place with thixotropic impact glue. Then glue on your Trakmark leaving a 2in overlap to tuck in the under edges of the mat then glue this in place. A shame all the inside have been discarded. Have you got the civilian registration, just in case I have picture of that?
  10. So sorry to hear that news. I didn't actually speak to your Dad at Overlord this year, although I was aware of the treat with the Ferret. I'm so glad that you pulled that off for him. I did have a long chat with your Mum, who as you know I have known longer than you! My condolences to you all & please mention me to your Mum.
  11. It's annoying because the label by now is just blank. I have had it for 15 years & has often been admired & on occasions I've been approached to see if I would sell it. It seems it is uncommon, well certainly in a large size. It was given to me by a former REME LAD officer who served with Clyclops Sqn 2 RTR & was last used in service in connection with Hornet/Malkara trials. So it has some nice provenance.
  12. Is it a bit like this? My label is now illegible.
  13. Robin there were two main blocks of trailers in GT 18 GT 22 - 25 GT 59 Sankey 15 cwt 68 GT 75 - 92 GT 71 Arrow 35 cwt Have you got any photos?
  14. There are two 12-v alternators listed neither of which ties in with the numbers you have 7RU/2920-99-910-7703 RTC5683N (Rover) 24198 (Lucas) This one is 45A don't now what the other is 6MT4/2920-99-788-9319 PRC6368 (Rover) 601717-A1 As the DMC is 6MT4 means it will be used on other vehicles. That's all I've got I'm afraid
  15. So it might not be on next year. If it is maybe September, apparently in August people might be playing games in London, which is of no interest to me. But I wonder how many shows may suffer from a drop in attendance or simply feel they can't compete with such goings on. Anyway here's a TV clip of this years effort. Doesn't show the diversity of displays as this was shot well before most exhibitors had arrived & set up. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-14430232
  16. Robin item 4 is the rubber cup 1 1/8 in. KL2762 I believe also used on a 101 Rover
  17. Just depends how many pounds you have in your ton, 2,240 or 2,000
  18. Now you've got embarrassing Wayne! You can't say things like that like bow your head in shame. This is an imperial British vehicle built in the 1950s 1 Ton please! Imperial to the last, even the rear door opening is not 1219.2 mm, it is 4ft 0in:-D:-D
  19. The very same! I bought all his old sales catalogues. For some years there was a mystery in that there were a large number of Champs sold off but there were no Ruddington catalogues that could identify when. The reason being is that most were sold through OSDD Branston (2 miles south of Burton-on-Trent) I have only 3 Branston catalogues & it is no coincidence that I was able to find them at Hirsts:D
  20. Couldn't have put it better myself Richard
  21. Pretty much there Wayne. There is adequate grease on the UJ & you can see where some excess has spun onto the chassis. There looks to be recent greasing of the axle drive shaft casing, on the left below the compressor. The main source of the grease should not have all this. There should be a blanking plug to make it obvious it does not require greasing routinely. Only in preparation for fording requires the plug to be removed & a grease nipple fitted. Then gentle pressure to inject grease sufficient only to allow a little grease to appear at the pressure relief valve (above & out of view) this indicates that the seals are full. Excessive pressure risks damaging the seals. Not a big deal unless you are planning on fording. It just seems nice to consider the purpose of what one is trying to lubricate. Just followed on as another example, no doubt well intentioned, efforts of a blanking plug being fitted with a grease nipple.
