  1. Well done Bernard you are good at these slightly off-beat ones. I thought Richard was in there on the trail. The year is the year of the Pig ie of the first FV1609 ie 1956. The title of the technique seems to confer a certain sense of science to the technique which claims amongst many things, to find arithmetical errors, forged notes & stamps, various medical conditions including hypertension, agriculture, food that is bad for you, purity of water etc. I bought this booklet for £1, for the same price I also purchased the Constitution of the USSR, I'm still trying weigh up which is the more believable.:-\
  2. Yes very good Bernard. Can you put a name to this technique & an appx date?
  3. None of those items required Tony, this isn't the dark ages.
  4. A little bit different this time. An ingenious system for automobile fault-finding. What is the name of this system? What were the essentials of the apparatus used? When?
  5. Yes I have been getting that on & off all day only on here. A page won't load at all then come back later & ok. I had assumed it was all to do with my line fault which was reported 8 days ago & nobody seems to bother doing anything about it. There is just noise on the line no dial tone, so I can neither ring out or receive calls. Curiously the broadband does work after a fashion. Although on tests my download speed is now halved to below 1mbs & the upload speed doesn't register anything. Calls are diverted to my mobile but coverage for that is very limited around the house, so lots of people thinking we are ignoring them. Anyway that was just an excuse to moan about my phone company, but apart from those problems the forum does seem slow to open up at times.
  6. Is this one any good for you? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ex-WD-Tail-Lamp-Side-Window-numberplate-lamp-NOS-/270827788832?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Other_Vehicle_Parts_Accessories_ET&hash=item3f0e981a20
  7. Oh yes. Curiously the DMC is at the end of the NSN rather the normal custom of preceding it.
  8. Some early Stalwarts & 1 Ton Rovers were fitted with altern@tors that provide a 3-phase output. These were Generators No.10 Mks A, 1, 2. It was simply a feed from the stator windings to pins P, T & R by passing the rectifier diodes. But the voltage is far too low it must be used in conjunction with the Power Tool Transformer Unit that then provides the 208v 400Hz as Andy says. The engine revs had to be kept at 2,250 Hz in order to deliver that frequency for the matching power tools also because overheating would occur as the transformer was designed for 400 Hz.
  9. Indeed the Army made no distinction between grease & oil guns as it was the same tool.
  10. Robin I will of course require used bank notes of mixed denominations (but please no Euros) sufficient to fill two plain wrapped packages, one marked "Agricultural gift aid to the glorious Mother country" & the other in flamboyant seasonal paper marked "Here are your sweeties from Aunties Phylis & Agatha" to: The Chief Librarian EMER Towers The Garden Path Humber-on-the-mind Sagadiev County AE1 2SP
  11. ...and timed to the last 0.01 of a minute. But did that include the time to move the step ladder?
  12. Richard it sounds to me that you are no longer using this system. It could save you on paperwork & ink, the next time you bleed the clutch for a customer just tell them there is an 1A13 to pay for.
  13. I've found a duplicate for the 1986 codes, they did seem to change a lot this is issue no.14.
  14. Perhaps what I was coping with was just short term mould eg manual left in damp garage for a few weeks rather well established stuff. It seemed to work for that. Suppose I was lucky the mice didn't get to it first.
  15. I'll go & check if I have any duplicates.
  16. Yes it does change through most of the alphabet as does the first number. Then of course we get into the muddy waters of the 8 (usually digit) codes for equipment & these are different from the NSN & sometimes the same as the Asset Code but not always. Fun isn't it!
  17. Malc I don't know of any online resource for those codes. It's not really a thing that there would be much demand for. I don't mind doing the odd page but there is too much to copy. Once scanned I crop it, change it B&W to reduce size, then reduce it by about 60% then upload it. So it would take me a few hours. But it is delight to find someone appreciate it, usually when I start talking about EMERs peoples eyes glaze over. Although I hate to say this but the codes are not exciting in themselves except when of course there is an inspection or job card that needs translating.
  18. Malc a bit more nostalgia for you coming up! The Operation Codes cover some 24 pages of the EMER but no doubt there were abridged versions. Difficult to read but the top scan is of G1084A.
  19. Robert I would make sure it is dry first (linen cupboard for a few days) then with a soft brush just gently brush off what will then be dust.
  20. Malc, 1084? Was this Air Publication 1084? I've got 1086 but don't know 1084. Although as the Army became the Single Service Manager for MT in Jan 1976, would this have been Army Form G1084? It sort of fits in, although it is a Form rather than a Book. Below makes reference to "REME only" use but this extract is from a catalogue of Army Forms from the 1960s predating SSM. There is a very large section on Repair Codes & procedures in EMER MANAGEMENT J 020 -J 029 if there was anything in particular I could look up. There are examples of G1084A & G1084D I could scan if you want to see if it looks familiar.
  21. Over here officially ASO = Air Support Officer
  22. I think this is: Trailer, 2-Ton, Cargo, Dropside, 4 Wh, FV2501 series Tasker: Wt: 1 Ton 15 cwt Length: 11 ft 6 in SMT or Transport Engineering Co. Wt: 1 Ton 2 cwt Length 10ft 10in
  23. Robin I think I know the one you mean. Made me cringe, yes I know the old chestnut it's his vehicle & he can do what he likes with it. Yes but don't present it as a legitimate vehicle. What I found offensive was that it displayed the badge of the Royal Armoured Corps & a Union Flag badge. Well with all that stuff on it might add to the confusion. But I don't think not being an ex-serviceman is a bar to being an effective judge.
