  1. Guys, forgive me if I'm asking the obvious, but have you checked the USAAF loss lists at accidentreports.com? or of you have location and date Craig Fuller at AAIR might be able to help locate the accident report(he's just moved so there maybe a delay in replying to emails). Matt.
  2. Interesting question but I'm afraid I'm not 100% on the answer, although I too have yet to see a WW2 photo of blue RAF vehicles.
  3. I thought that style of case was WW2? I have a very tatty one with several drawings on it,belonged to a Royal Navy seaman. Matt.
  4. Andy, that song(and whoever wrote it) should be treated like atomic waste, sealed in concrete and buried!. I best if Orvil had enough C4 shoved up him he could fly......
  5. Hi, Following on from my question on the Land Rover Gallery thread, can anyone post a clear picture/drawing/scan of the insignia for HQ Land Forces Persian Gulf? Thanks, Matt.
  6. Thanks Sean,I will have to get the book by the sound of it. Cheers, Matt.
  7. I'm sure this question has been asked before but I can't find the thread. Can anyone tell me the reason for the format of post war,eg 1960's British military registration numbers? for instance two Land Rovers 20 DM 67 and 93 EL 31,I assume the DM is earlier but can anyone tell me the dates these vehicles entered service from these reg numbers? Thanks, Matt.
  8. There are worse things than emu, orvil the vomit green duck for instance.....
  9. Well if being grumpy means Snow White is going to move in I'm all for it:evil: Oh******,did I just say that out loud?
  10. Welcome, very nice Series one station wagon you have!
  11. Hi Joris, It's the insignia of the unit,in this case 17th/21st Lancers. Matt.
  12. Hi Tim, Body looks ok to me,lots of incorrect details though(lights, dials, headlamp guards) and it's missing the rear step...... Matt.
  13. Etchweld from Bilt Hamber, cheeper than others and of good quality.
  14. I don't know which is worse, the fact someone actually bothered to list, erm, those items or the fact someone paid au$200 for them!. It's always good to know such folks exist, makes the rest of us look fairly normal!
  15. I was looking at a listing,I think it's still on there by a guy selling several Series three FFR and GS Land Rovers "for parts only",his pictures are of complete-ish vehicles but he claims he cannot sell the entire vehicles or the chassis, does this make sense? I see no legal reason why he cannot sell a complete vehicle even if it has never been civvy registered.
  16. There will always be listings like those above on ebay, just a case of buyer beware. One thing I will say is sometimes a poor description can lead to less bids and a bargain can be had if you know exactly what you're looking for! The listings which REALLY worry me are those for "relics" which have obviously been recently taken from battlefield graves, these are usually German and from Eastern Europe, although I have seen the effects of a WW1 USMC MIA listed from France,"recently dug up on the battlefield".....
  17. I'm 29 and have been a GOM for several years, age has nothing to do with it!
  18. I'm afraid you are probably right Tony. Of course it won't effect me as I don't have any deacts, old or new spec, not a single one.....
  19. A local guy I know was clearing out his barn today and I noticed some post war British ammo boxes, these are the standard small 7.62 tins as used with the GPMG but what I hadn't seen before was the carrying cradle which takes four of the boxes. Are these unusual? all were dated 1966. He also has three 105 artillery boxes, these take 2 rounds each, dated 1965. I'd like the 7.62 boxes with cradle but wanted to know are they common as muck before making an offer. Thanks, Matt.
  20. It could well be a primer, but the reason I say not it it's over everything, bumpers, grill, light mountings etc but the olive green is properly sprayed on the body panels only. The pink was obviously applied when the unit markings were mounted on the bumper as there is a clear outline of the two square panels. The only exception to the above is the bonnet which was DBG followed by black applied by brush which has then had olive green sprayed over it,no sign of pink anywhere on the bonnet. Ps I have NO intention of driving a pink LR,even if it turns out it was that colour in service! Matt.
  21. Hi Jack, I think there's something on arrse,if not try the British Army website, haven't got the address but it will be on google. Matt.
  22. Thanks for your offer Degsy, that's very good of you but I'm afraid I'll be working Friday:-( Matt.
  23. The paint layers on the Landy are(starting with the earliest) Factory Deep Bronze Green. Pink(very dark, almost red) Pink, much lighter shade. Olive green. Olive green. Gloss brown(applied by first civvy owner) Gloss green(applied by third civvy owner). I will eventually be looking for a deact SLR and Sterling. Thanks all for the replies and informaton. Matt.
  24. Well I'd like to but none of mine are road legal! Matt.
  25. Cheers Nick I'll call Tony. The reason I ask is I'm hopefully getting some military Land Rover 16" split rims and I was wondering if the stude are the same as those on Jeep rims as I'll be replacing the studs and nuts. Matt.
