  1. Yer it's more of an dark yellow then gold in the bellhousing :-)
  2. Not alot to report, but it did win Best Military in show at Leafers at T'pit last month though :-D This week I'v had to replace the clutch master cylinder, and new hinge repair kits for the passenger side door hinges, and found a hole in the bulkhead to patch up too. Only just started welding recently and got a welder off a friend yesterday so its not perfect and it could use a pillar really but I'll see about that once I'v improved on my welding skills
  3. The paint on this does seem to be green rather then sky blue, and certainly a 2/2a box, will look at the serial number and track down which type it really is
  4. I did find 723 on the casings so I presume thats the programme number, where gearboxes painted like engines too?
  5. Dragged the original gearbox from the FFR out the garage today to give it a clean and degrease to hopefully get it rebuilt sometime soon, I knew there were a few extra markings on it and some paint but never knew inside the bellhousing was yellow! is this normal for military 2a boxes? and does anyone recognise any of the other markings?
  6. It's not a tube it's a barrel (sorry little gripe of mine having been on 81mm mortars, no offence though :-) )
  7. Whilst getting another of my Land Rovers ready for a new engine I decided to swap the radiators over to give the FFR the corroect 2/2a 4 core instead of the (then new) series 3 3 core one I fitted a few years ago
  8. Found this pic of one on the RAF Regiment Museum FB page
  9. Mk3 Militant towing an Land Rover 101 on the A14 East bound at Bury st Edmunds this evening
  10. Not been in but been past the store a few times as its a couple of villages away from me
  11. Not alot to report but got an non boarded rear plate today to match the front one and fitted new front wing stays, and found future work for the footwells too :-( just need to give it a wipe over before the village car show tomorrow :-)
  12. So close, My Rover 8 FFR is 55 DM 83, Ah well lol :-)
  13. Awesome dude bet your glad you didnt sell it now :-)
  14. May have to pop down to the next one by the looks of it :-)
  15. Took me way too long to get round to sorting this problem, but with all the information given by you guys here and a mate who knows electrics better then what I do we finally found the problem to be the small shielded cable that runs from the generator to the regulator/control box had a break in one end, which my mate stripped and rebuilt for me last night. the rest of the cable looks to of had quite a life so thought I try my luck and see if theres any NOS ones out there (part number 519909, cable, alternator, CB/6006/21C) checked Craddocks, Blanchards and Dunsfold and even ebay but had no joy, does anyone know of anywhere that could make a new shielded cable like the old one?
  16. I was just looking up oil cooler pipes the other night for my 1961 FFR, Craddocks have them listed and I think Dunsfold and Blanchards do too
  17. Cheers mate :-) still can't get my head round why one side works normal and the other side doesn't, so refitted the sender I fitted yesterday after bending it the other way around and put the NOS one to one side as a spare for the drivers side should it ever need it
  18. NOS fuel sender turned up today, fitted it and its still reading backwards :-( so made up some extended connections to test it with the other sender and with the switch set to the other tank and no matter what it seems that when ever it is set to draw fuel from the passenger tank it will read backwards, whilst it will read normal when set to draw from the drivers tank, is it the gauge or have I missed something along the way?
  19. Had a look through the ex military parts book I'v got for the part number mine should be (530008) checked out Craddocks, Blanchards and Dunfold on line last night, with only Dunsfold listing them but no price, so called them today and said about it being a 40 amp FFR/Toastie and knew what I had and said that should be the right sender for it so just got to wait for postie now :-)
  20. Just fitted a new sender unit in the FFR's passenger side fuel tank to replace what I thought was a dodgy unit as it read in reverse, eg empty when full and full when empty, but the new sender reads the same, but when I switch to the other tank it reads normal, any ideas anyone?
  21. Also had an amazing find there too of NOS 24 volt wiper motors :-D
  22. Took the FFR and sankey down to Steam at Rutland water this weekend to catch up with a few mates and road going kettles, and also finally got to see another (90 amp) FFR that some more friends own, although its now 12 volts due to ease of wanting to get it done and usable ready for when they take their other (civvy) land rover off the road for a rebuild
  23. Basically yes lol :-) all goes back to when the military started using 80" series 1's which in typical military fashion they called a "Rover Mk 1" then the 86 was "Rover Mk 2" 107- "Rover Mk 3" 88- "Rover Mk 4" 109- "Rover Mk 5" Series 2 88 "Rover Mk 6" 109- "Rover Mk 7" Series 2a 88 "Rover Mk 8" 109 "Rover Mk 9" And then when they switched to Negative earth electrics they became "Rover Mk 10" and "Rover Mk 11" respectively. But then for some reason when they introduced the first series 2a lightweights they were called "Rover 1" (If anyone spots any mistakes I'v made please feel free to put me right lol :-) )
  24. Nothing major but today after work I fitted some new tool straps on the fittings on the tailgate, I did but some on years ago but didn't realise until it was too late that two were fitted the wrong way, also for some reason I'v never been able to fit the spade the right way around so made a couple of blocks to fit under the bracket to enable the spade to fit alot better now :-)
