  1. cheers mate, just gotta wait for the new paintwork to dull down to match the rest now lol
  2. finally got round to painting the outside of the new rear body, still got the inside and the tailgate to do but gotta strip and replace all the fittings and straps for the tools on the tailgate, but its a step further at least lol
  3. That doesnt suprize one bit about the Britpart crossmember, dont know if your on any landrover forums ferret but theres loads of bad things reported about Britpart that alot of people ask for parts not to be from them when ordering bits, myself included
  4. that sounds alright then, better then being all arsey about it and having to re-register it (makes a change for the dvla to be so helpful lol), wonder if Richards do know about ommiting the hole in the cross member, the previous owner of mine had to fit a new rear cross member which has the hole but when I can I'm planning on somehow getting it welded up and ground back smooth
  5. I was based there on QCS from late 2003 until just before the closing ceremonie, I knew the army was there praticing to do public duties, take it the army's no longer there either then?
  6. Cheers mate, thats is the era I'm aiming for and to here from someone who served and used them at that time is is fantasic :-), all I know is it was built in 1961 and sold off in 1972 (judging from the k plate it was given) the previous owner did write to Beverley when it was still open but unfortunatly they had no information on the history of the vehicle so at least this period is correct for the wagon :-)
  7. good going mate :-) are you going for a galvinized chassis or have ya already got one ready to go?
  8. cheers for all the comments guys :-) hopefully I'll get over to the sparky who's gonna fit the new loom this week and see if he's been able to start on it yet (he's had it a while but didnt want to stop and start on it) and give you all an update on it's progress
  9. cheers mate, I'll admit its no nut and bolt restoration and only been able to work on it at weekends back home but certainly didnt want to rush it and end up having to go over things again, also just wanted it to have that "in service" look about it too
  10. as there's at least 2 others on here I thought I'd thought i'd better share mine a bit more on here lol :-) owned it since about 2001, it was on the road but had a mixed bag of front seats up front along with a large square heater thats kicked out loads of heat (everyone who sat in the front soon fell asleep lol) bench seats in the rear, G90 tyres on the rear and something else, cant remember what on the front and a xcl for the spare all on standard l/r rims and a civvy spec canvas, apart from a coat of Nato green paint on the outside (inside was still orginal but really worn and dirty DBG) and tracking down the radio fittings for the rear it was kept like this and taken to Duxford and the London to Brighton run that year, as and when I could i set about finding and fitting the correct parts like the ffr canvas, rifle brackets and clips, jerry can holder etc, after a blown tyre I managed to et hold of some 7.50 Goodyear extragrips which later where transfered to split rims after i was able to track some down, had them shot blasted and repainted, in about 2004 I took it off the road when I decided to do some major work on it, firstly was changing the gearbox for one from ebay as the orginal was rattling everywhere and jumping out of 2nd and 3rd (still got it to rebuild one day) cylinder head was replaced with a unleaded one, did hope to have the orginal one reused but had a crack in it, front swivel housings rebuilt and front and rear axle cleaned up and repainted, also been tracking down larkspur radio sets for the rear, only got half a C13 set and man pack A41 so far, gave the exterior a new coat of Nato green and added a few markings I had seen on pics of Rover 8's (including my old sqn tac plate, 63 sqn RAF Regt) ant the interior (not quite right as it turned out :-( ) DBG, the electrics did work but the rear had been bodged horriedly with trailer loom so left it until i took a chance on a 24 volt series 2 loom that came up on ebay, had a look at it and reckon it should fit, I say should as it's currently in the hands of a auto electrician to fit (proper old school electrician whos quite keen to get it done too) not many pics I'm afraid of the work but a few at least
  11. sounds promising mate. most the fitting from mine where missing and the loom had been bodged to the rear with 7 core trailer wire :-( but its slowly getting there
  12. Benn a while since i'v been able to do any more but things have moved on a bit more now, finally got the new rear tub fitted, had to fit new rear pannels as the rear body came from a late series 3 using the then new 110 light postisions and capping so new pannels where fitted and the chassis cleaned up and painted on top whilst there was chance to do so, still loads of roughly applied paint on this new tub but much easier to deal with then all the evostick covering the inside of the old body, the n/s of it is a bit dented but its in just the right place to cut out and fit a storage locker which will happen next after I'v seen if a army 110 one will fit or not
  13. sweet, another 40 amp toast rack saved :-)
  14. nice one cheers for that mate, progress has slowed down a bit as works quite busy at the mo, going over to a friends tomorrow to sort out a rear tub he has to replace the one currently fitted, all the wheels now match each other after a coat of matt black, also took it out last weekend to join a load of other old leaf sprung landys off roading and greenlaning, only prob it had was it's disliking to water like most petrol engine landys lol
  15. Bedford RL about to cross sutton bridge towards Kings lynn, Funny thing was (as the wagon I was driving is like me, still serving) I got a wave as I was driving the our wing's Bedford MJ back to Coningsby after being on exercise this week lol
  16. cheers mate, I'll admit it was just ment to be a tidy up and have a handy truck to cart things about in and go greenlaning with but with the parts I had and as things progressed I thought I could actually do something with this instead lol
  17. cheers for those pics monty, i'm guessing the hole in the rear body would be for a jerry can to be slid into?
  18. yep it sure has, a mate on a landy forum had some for sale on landrover 130 rims, wider then a normal lwb rim but not as hard to find as a 2b fc rim, mark, if you can get hold of a copy of classic military vehicle sept 2007 theres's a few pics in there of what turned out to be Kenyan army pink panther type patrol vehicles, dont know if that would be any help to you or not mate
  19. for pics all I did was just a afew google search's on things like sadf, rhodesian army etc anything I could think of just to get an general idea of how such armys used landrovers and how much, if any, different they are to british military vehicles (also think I may of seen "the dogs of war" and "the wild geese" a few too many times too lol)
  20. cheers mate, got to admit the workshop isnt mine, got posted to RAF Coningsby in april and found out theres a motorclub up here so joined it and was lucky to get use of one of the bays to do the bulkhead swop, still got to work on the rear body of the vehicle which may be getting swopped with a better one a mate has (this one is full of evostick and some lumps of filler) and got the front end all back together just over a week ago so it could be mot'd and kept on the road as its a useful wagon for collecting bits and bobs
  21. As stated in the title this is a replica and my interpetation of a landrover in service with countrys that had links with uk forces either through the commonwealth or BATTS (British Army Training Teams) etc, the vehicle itself was a bit of a mixed bag like many old landrovers, picking up a military spec chassis, side and indecator lights and later bulkhead at some point, I was just going to tidy it up and use it as a run around but looking closer showed that the bulkhead would need either alot of repair work or replace it, as I had the correct but bare bulkhead in my pile of spares I decided to swop it and at the same time tidy up the front end as well, when I looked into getting a new loomand what dash pannels etc i had to used I settled on a late 2a military spec loom as I had a spare 6 way switch with ign and could make a military spec dash simular to that as used on my 1961 swb 2a ffr, also when it came to paint the bulkhead i got some paint mixed up at the local hardwear/diy store (coningsby) and as the build processed I thought about other countrys that have used landrovers for there forces, such as South Africa, Rhodesia, Botswania etc so its not a full replica of any in particular but just my interpetation rather then try a exact copy of a particular vehicle
  22. any pics of the fake snatch, driven them in iraq and afgan (snatch 1,2 and 3/vixen) and be interested to see how bad/different this fake one is
  23. Fair one mate, at least its nothing that cant be undone if needed to bring it back to standard without it beinging messed around with, and deffo better then having the whole running gear and other parts replaced by that of a later landrover, sounds good though mate
  24. I'v been meaning to get some of the bedford for years, need to arrange a time when my old mans over from the IoM and when I'm also back in suffolk (currently serving at RAF Coningsby so get home when I can) at the same time to get some, he did start restoring it back in the early 90's, got the cab sorted and back into primer, worked on the engine and was running, I remember he had the rear body pannels took off to be refurbished but think they have been lost as its now been over 15 years which is really annoying, but I will sort out getting some pics when I can as i really wanna see whats what with it and where to start
  25. cheers mate, I'll admit its not a nut and bolt job (although in the time its been off the road it may as well of been lol) but i didnt want to fit parts that shouldn't or wouldnt or been there, is your a 24volt 40 amp system too mate?
