  1. oops, I really did let this thread go, just so ya know the 2a ffr hasnt be forgotten about, work has slow been going on with it at weekends and was featured in LRM in 2008 as well, its away having a nos loom fitted and some welding done as we speak, after that other then replace the handbrake expander it should be ready for its mot, been repainted inside and out, radio fittings tracked down, restored and refitted along with rifle clips and brackets, even now I still havent been to track down my old man's QLT, but do know its safe and inside, also picked up another series 2a landrover project, nothing special really, bit of a bitsa but just replaced the bulkhead and had some welding done on the rear of the chassis, not really a true military rover but has picked up a military chassis and lights at some point so I'm rebuilding it as the sort of military landrover used by countries thats still had close ties with the uk and uk forces
  2. cheers for that mate, and to think the answers only 30 mins away from me at the mo lol
  3. A couple of years ago I pick up an Israeli 30 cal machine gun made by F.N. in Belgium and in 7.62mm, one thing thats always had me wondering is the rear grip and trigger, as its totally different to the old pistol grip on the orginal ww2 era 30 cals, was it simply an improvement over the old style for use of 7.62mm rounds or was it like that for some other reason?
  4. sorry for not replying sooner, was enjoying what the thoughts on what the paint scheme should be, cheers for the help guys (seems its the wrong shade for the early 70's and wrong colour for a RAF Regt wagon, bugger lol :-) )
  5. was aiming for around the early 70's, it left the army in 1972 and gained a k plate, dont think the green i'v used is too dark like the nato green on the wolfs at work, would you say its about right?
  6. wow didnt think it was back in the 60's, thought some time in the late 70's maybe but cheers for that mate, was debating (with myself lol) which one to fit in my 1961 rover 8 ffr so thinking the later one wouldnt look out of place now (being restored to its later service life with nato green outside and DBG inside)
  7. cheers guys, always good to have some info on things ya get to go with the wagons
  8. cheers mate, did wonder if it was used for anything in particular or not not having seen a wartime ammo box before and those dividers just got me thinking cheers mate
  9. got these to old miltary army fire extinguishers, but not sure when one replaced the other, there is a date of 1981 on the back of the newer one but anyone know when they were introduced?
  10. picked up this 1943 dated ammo box, inside are 4 brackets/dividers, 2 on each end, any ideas why they're there, also not sure if the colour is orginal or not, seems a strange grey colour, should it be brown like the 1956 dated 3 inch mortar round box i also have?
  11. managed to pick up a 1943 dated jerry can today, although its a bit bashed about and painted deep bronze green, would i be right in thinking its been repainted at some time? also been going through the 1950's and 67 cans i'v got and all have different marks stamped under the wd mark and date, anyone got any ideas to what they mean?
  12. cheers chris, next time i'm home i'll look up the numbers on it and let ya know, be good to know any history about it, thinking about i know nothing apart from the general history of any of my weapons lol
  13. sounds good cheers mate, nice to have a link with the reg number, guessing the mount that held the mount (if ya know what i mean lol) would of been simular to that on a ferret? only guessing cos like i say they're the only vehicles i'v seen them on
  14. about 5 years ago i was lucky enough to get a L4 bren gun, i think its a L4A6 but i'll check next time i'm home, then 2 years ago from ebay i got a vehicle mount for it wit a brass plate saying; "MOUNT GUN 7.62 MM (L4A4) No 4 MK1 ASSY. DRG. FV. 565525 SERIAL No 09EA28 EX'D" (sorry got no close up pic i can upload at the mo of the plate) i'v seen 303 brens on ferrets but would 7.62 brens been on them too? the serial number looks to be a mv reg number to me
  15. walking around coningsby village today saw a tilly go past towards horncastle, not sure what make but was a full soft top with the top off enjoying the weather
  16. cheers for all ya help guys, just about got it all worked out and labled up to what goes where, just have to sorth the bilkhead out now ready for it lol (after this i'm glad i'm getting my 24volt 40 amp toast rack version look at by a pro lol)
  17. cheers for the help guys, now i'll be able to sort this out alot better now lol
  18. has anyone got a wiring diagram for a military spec 12 volt negative earth late series 2a landrover (aka rover 11, headlights in wings)? i'v got a new loom to fit to mine along with the new bulkhead to replace the wrong series 3 item on there at the mo but having trouble identifying which wire is what, only got the diagram for a earlier positive earth system and seems slightly different
  19. now there's no need for that now lol, if only i had some pics of when me mate wrote it off after swapping over between patrols lol
  20. cheers mate, thought i'd celebrate my handy work while we waited for the winches to come lol :-)
  21. they are awsome and full of kit too, ya just have how big it is though, i forgot at one point in afgan last year
  22. got this off ebay late last year, late series 2a/rover 11 that was used by the raf, seeing that ya not see many ex raf wagons about i thought i'd better grab it and set about getting it back on the road, chassis and bulkhead are both shot so managed to get a series 3 109 for the chassis that just needs a couple of holes and poss rear x member doing to it,
  23. wow another 40 amp landy, looks grubby from the pic but is it still sound in the right places?
