  4. We had two in 5 Armd Wksps REME West Germany in the mid 1950s, Ford and Willy`s, both used for transporting officers (Inc the C.O.) I drove him on exercises in either a Jeep or a Champ. The Jeeps were also used for the 70 mile round trip to collect the mail. They were never used in a workshop role............. but of course I dont know about LAD, although I never came across such usage.

My friends Stan & Margaret have a WC51....... I will ask them if they have ever ran out of fuel for the same reason. Or has anyone else on the forum ran out when still showing above empty ???????

Our Dodge WC51 ran out of fuel while it was being ran in the workshop, not such a bad thing really, at least we do now know that it runs dry when the fuel gauge is still showing a little above empty.... no excuse now for running dry when out on the road. It did however jog my memory back to the 1950s, when one of our guys was traveling back from Munster in a Bedford QL. He was stopped for speeding by an MP(s) not really sure if the MP was on his own, however he asked our guy why he was speeding, he told the MP that he was very low on fuel, and was trying to get back before he ran dry..........the MP said, make sure that you have plenty of fuel in future.
  9. Ours are 48 and fifty years old, it wont be long before they are changing our nappies........ this getting old is not all that its cracked up to be!!!!!
  10. Surely any modifications can have serious implications for insurance ?????? Best left alone and enjoy the drive.
  11. I do agree, I wish that I was coming along with you, enjoy the trip, and like John has stated, enjoy the countryside along the way.......... the slowest vehicles should be at the front of the convoy, setting the pace.
  12. I drove them in Germany in the 1950s, I found them to be a great little vehicle to drive, I envy you, have fun.
  13. It looks to be Ford or Commer ?????
  14. The weapon if loaded from below will be readily available when the screen is down, not so if the other way up.
  15. Well done! its wonderful that we have people like yourself in our mid`st. I am 76, unfortunately live a little too far away and would be more of a liability than an asset. You are to be applauded.......
  16. I put a couple of handfuls of SODA Crystals in my radiators, run the vehicle for the season and then drain and flush. The Soda softens the water and moves lots of rubbish from the rad and block..... works O.K. for me. Overheating so quickly when just moving the vehicle would suggest that either the impellers are not working or the thermostats are not opening. The symptoms that you describe would occur on any engine if you removed the fan belt. I do hope that you manage to get it sorted.
  17. I suppose that it would stop you from sticking anything magnetic onto the sides ????
  18. I bet they tasted like crap.
  19. All information will be listed on the MVT web site.
  20. The truck is even the split axle model, the weakest axles...... theres confidence for you.!!!
  21. I enjoyed that, thanks for posting.
