  1. Nah..its just an RCT driver gate crashing the party and trying to steal the show!!
  2. Hi, As it sounds like quite a grey area..as a suggestion why not just bite the bullet, pay the money and take the H cat test? Seems the most sensible option. I was having the same thoughts about my Bedford TM 4-4 with the Atlas crane...do i need a ticket to operate the crane? I couldnt find a definitive answer so to air on the side of caution i got myself booked on a course. Only costs a couple of hundred pounds but well worth it. Would certainly make things easier to sort out if god forbit something went wrong when doing a lift...cover your a*se!! Just my two penneth!!
  3. Bit of a country bumpkin fete really...theres a bit of everything but not nothing to get excited about! Shame you arent down this way in July/August. Theres Powderham Castle and Wadebridge Wheels in early July and Mount Edgecombe the first sunday in August..huge turn out of all types of classics and a good number of military. Bob White always makes an appearence with his Scammell Explorer and Bren Gun Carrier. Ill be there this year with my TM! The following weekend at ME is the MVT's annual show..good turn out for that one with displays and reenactments etc. Therse also Morval Steam and Vintage but not sure when that is. Again, bit of everything. Hope this helps!
  4. Looks like we needed a few more ratchet straps for that one!! We did used to have some fun with the new guys..we would get someone zipped up into a body bag and then get the unsuspecting victim to lift the "body" out the back which would then burst out of the body bag!! Good harmless fun:nut:
  5. This was taken in the "Alamo" which was the RCT vehicle lines, Jubilee Camp, inside the UNPA. The REME wkps were just down the road. When were you there? I was in 7 Sqn RCT. http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=35.164056,33.274176&spn=0.00421,0.007553&t=h&z=17
  6. We used to have a VW Type 2 bay window converted into a hearse when i was out in Cyprus on a UN tour in 1992. Great fun to drive around in..shopping trips into Nicosia! I did use it a couple of times for its intended purpose!! One coffin arriving at Ledra Palace checkpoint sticking out the back of a Merecedes taxi!
  7. 4 OshKosh HETTS heading into Marchwood @09:40 this morning. Very impressive!
  8. Well funnily enough there was one similar to yours offered for sale at Plymouth Auction Rooms last sale which was on wednesday last week!! It was painted black but was complete with panniers, bag mounted inside the frame and clips on top of the cross bar which held the original tyre pump!! Ill have a look later to see if theres a pic. We used yo have a baarack bike to get around camp when i was in the army..it was an old mountain bike and was probably the most nicked bike in history!! Was often to be found strung up in the rafters of the MT hanger!!
  9. Yes that wouldnt be a problem Its an 8 ton payload. 16 ton gross. Take it you need one shifting?!!
  10. Cheers guys..its great fun! I went to Halfords in it the other day..jumped out and sauntered over much to the crowds delight!! Had to be done!
  11. Picked this up 2 weeks ago from a guy who advertised it on Milweb. It was demobbed 2 years ago after 25 years service and only had 40k miles on the clock! Changed the fuel filter today after power loss on hills and glad i did as the filter was choked up badly!! All flushed through now and running fine..pulls well up hills now! I used to drive these back in my army days in the RCT/RLC..so a bit of a nostalgia trip! My plan is to repaint the cab and replace a few worn parts and will show the truck next year!
  12. Cheers mate..ill look into that. Ill be getting the truck painted over the winter and a few odd jobs done. Ive got my shiney 7 to go on the windscreen!!
  13. Thanks for that bit of info..thats interesting. Wonder if theres a way i can get hold of the vehicles service records?
  14. Im now the proud owner of a very nice low mileage Bedford TM 8T CALM. I picked it up last saturday and drove it 250 miles home with no problems at all. My question is id like to know how to go about finding which unit it belonged to. I have the CAST document from when it was released and there is some info on their which gives me a good place to start. Heres what i know so far: Reg: 43KB22 Date entered service: 25/08/1983 UIN: A4544A 4th Batt REME 12th Mech Div. Be interesting to know a bit more of the vehicles history and where it served etc.
  15. The Oshkosh is operated by these guys. www.ftxlog.com
  16. lol..thankfully i have many years experience of the 3 piece split rims...so know that its now a job for ATS!! Just hope they got a couple of jerry cans to balance the wheel on while two squaddies jump up and down on the tyre!!
  17. Thanks for your replies! I know what you mean about No.6. I read through the lighting regulations at the top of the page and the only thing i could find that was relevent was the first used on 1st April 1991 rule. The TM was first used in 1983 so im fairly confident that it is exempt! The guy im buying it from is MOTing it for me and he is located just outside London and i live in Plymouth!! Thought id see if anyone could give me a second opinion or come up with anything that id missed before i rang VOSA. Hopefully it wont be too long till its all done and i can go and pick the truck up and start having some fun!! Thanks again!
  18. Cant anyone tell if side marker lights are a legal requirement on a Bedford Tm 8T? The vehicle is going for its MOT at VOSA and there is a question mark over whether or not they need to be fitted. Thanks in advance. Andy.
  19. Heres a few in servce pics..10 regiment RCT circa late seventies, early 80's.
  20. Have to disagree!! Bedford MJ everytime..bullet proof!! Classic styling, easy to maintain and they go anywhere!! Leyland Daf..wimpy looking..plasticy switches and trim and definately not squaddie proof!!
  21. Have a look at the Royal Corps of Transport group on facebook..theres tons of pics on there. All the webbing was 58 pattern and desert combats...have you got a Sperm Badge? Ive got a US desert night parka in my loft not doing much..interested?
  22. Im an Ex REGULAR and ive just joined a TA RLC DROPS Sqn...so what does that make me???!!! Ive only done it so i can get my hands on a drops again without having to buy one!! Mid life crisis i think!
  23. I cant remember exactly!! But it was a lot of torque! The most we used to pull was 12 railcars all up weight of 540 tons..it would do this comfortably but with only the loco brakes stopping it could become hairy if you built up a bit of speed!! Unfortunately the depot closed 2 years ago but i managed to get both our locos into preservation. So for 10 years i was like a big kid playing with a full size train set..happy days!! Apologies for going off topic!
