Adam Elkins Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 can anyone explain old thread sizes. What would my pig have UNF/UNC ? Quote
0 sirhc Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Typically it will be UNF when the bolts go in to steel and UNC when they go into aluminium. If a bolt has a nut it will be UNF. Quote
0 Adam Elkins Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 cheers, so i will need a UNF tap and die set correct ? Quote
0 fv1609 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Also some BSF, small BA & I found one hub plug that had been tapped to metric - took me a while to twig when a new plug wouldn't screw in :argh: What are you planning on doing then Adam? Quote
0 Adam Elkins Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 I was looking at tap and die sets just in case. Also the oil filter mounting plate needs sorting as 2 of the 3 bolt holes are threaded. The holes don't quite line up. who ever made it needs a toe up there behind. Quote
0 Stormin Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 What no Whitworth? I always find that however many taps and dies I've got, I've never got the correct one. Quote

Also forgot BSP - lots of those. I find dedicated sets per thread are worthwhile. Those Multi-thread selection boxes are frustrating, because I always seem to need the size that isn't there! Quote
