Danny P
Everytime I like to buy a WWII British identity disc I don't know what to do because I really don't know to which unit the first digits of the serial number is assigned to. For instance, to which unit belongs serial number 7901260? Is there a list of digits and units which will help me when to buy one? Many thanks, Danny
79x100
Royal Armoured Corps from the look of it. There is a useful list on the WW2talk forum. http://ww2talk.com/index.php?threads/army-number-block-allocations.4837/ From 1942 onwards, most will be via the General Service Corps with no indication of subsequent allocations.

S Lan R have been listed under Prince of Wales's Volunteers - They were originally formed as "Prince of Wales's Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment). The Prince of Wales' Volunteers 3644001 - 3701000 It's not possible to ascertain battalion or the division to which they were allocated.
