Marmite!!
On display at ATR Pirbright amilies day... Multiple Launched Rocket System (MLRS) The MLRS is a general support weapon designed to launch rockets with a large payload at a high rate of fire. The system is capable of firing its 12 rockets singularly, or in ripples to saturate an area with sub-munitions. The launcher is fully computerised and incorporates an Automatic Laying System (ALS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS). The launcher is capable of moving from the line of march (mobile), onto a firing platform, engaging target(s) with all 12 rockets and being mobile again in under three minutes. The MLRS is currently in service with 39 Regt RA and 101 Regt RA (V). The deployment of MLRS during both Gulf wars highlighted its full capability. Tony B
They have now been upgraded with guided projectiles. This at least stops the removal of an entire grid square everytime a pod is unloded. I think it will be a while before we see them at Withams though.
