Danny P Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I know this topic keeps coming once in a while but I'm still confused. So here is my direct question, can I use a mineral 85W-140 GL-5 EP doped gear oil for my bedford MW gear box? Danny Quote
Richard Farrant Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 In the Bedford gearbox, you have a bronze bushing in the main-shaft and selector forks of a bronze material. GL-5 should not be used in this case. The army, post-war, specified a SAE50 engine oil in Bedford gearboxes. An engine oil of SAE50, is equivalent to a gear oil of SAE90 as they work on different viscosity scales. The engine oil is free of any additives that might harm yellow metal and may be easier for you to find than a Straight 90 (non EP) gear oil. Quote
