gas 44
Good evening, Going over to Arnhem area May 11/12/13 already got a tour booked for the 12th. We are arriving at the hook on the 11th early..ish morning, so Im looking for suggestions of places to visit en-route to Arnhem. On the 13th heading further down towards the other bridges so any suggestions would be most helpful, I know VERY little of this area. We will be in a couple of Jeeps or Jeep and Dodge. Thankyou in advance for any suggestions.

Enigma
I live just north of s-Hertogenbosch/Den Bosch. (Liberated by the 53rd Welsh Div.) Unfortunately not much to see WW2 wise. We do have a windmill.:-D But who knows we may meet for a cold Cola.

Wouldn't be enough to say it was more than amazing. http://hellshighwaytours.com/ Hi Jack, thanks for the link. I am already booked on one tour but not with those people. They took over a week to reply (yesterday as it happened) The problem is that with todays media we have grown to want an almost instant answer, if that dont come them we tend to move on. I wanted/needed to get something in place for the rest of our party. Once again Jack thanks,oh and BTW I'm glad you have not closed the door on another A&E............I'm sure that if asked for there would be plenty of help
sim60
Evening the windmill in question is very nice we went to have a look at it,while we were out there we also went to the local concentration camp and museum, which was very sobering, I know its not WW2 but the local Genie(like our REME) museum was very interesting and the quides were very friendly and gave us a guided tour. gas 44
Hi Simon, Thanks for the info, where is the camp in rewlation to Arnhem.
sim60
It was not that far away, it's at Vught which is just outside where the other guy lives(with the windmill),the camp is at one end of the street and the museum is slightly further up the road, the Genie museum is also on the same road, the camp museum is multi lingual but the camp itself only has an English pamphlet as they get hardly any English visitors. But its well worth a visit. The website is http://www.nmkampvught.nl/English The site is at Lunettenlaan 600,5263 NT Vught. Simon
sim60
Afternoon i forgot there was also a good local museum not far from Arnheim which the quides spoke english amongst other languages and was virtually all WW2 including a plane outside, this was well worth a visit as they had 3 wellbikes and an original container(i like motorcycles)and other vehicles including some with tracks and lots of other stuff.please see link below. Enigma
I had forgotten about Vught. Also near Den Bosch (north west) are 2 medievel castles to visit. The sites are in Dutch. The first one is nearest to my town. http://www.glk.nl/82/locatie/?locatie=15&gclid=CLTf4KOvzr0CFRDItAoduywAAA http://www.slotloevestein.nl/openingstijden/ Also near me the remains of a Fort. NNE of Den Bosch. Not very spectacular but I became a bit of a expert on it, nearby is a visitors centre (rural museum). http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nieuw_Fort_St._Andries Will you travel over the motorway or trying to find a single carriage way or simething going west to east? When will you return? Edited March 13, 2015 by Enigma
