Hey all

I have had a couple of cucv, the last one being an m1008 and my current an 1984 M1009. I'm trying to get a list of people in the UK who own one also so we can have some points of reference should anyone need any help with there's or ideas for places to get parts, etc. Just list your name, what you have and where you are if that's cool with everyone.

Cheers

Jamie

I have a M1008, had it about 8 years now. It came from the special ops squadron at Mildenhall, I have the maintenance records. I am in the (long term) process of "doing it up" and have had the TM400 overhauled but the adaptor mount for the main to transfer box has the typical crack around it. I am trying to get it welded but have no faith in a repair but cannot find a new one. So I am on the lookout for a new or good used adaptor mount.

Hey Iain

Good to find another owner out there, they seem pretty thin on the ground.

Have you tried http://www.us-army-military-shop.de/ for the part your looking for, exactly which bit is it? I find they have the majority of things but can be a bit hit & miss on the price. Failing that i use Rockauto in the states, shipping can be hit & miss aswell but i just bought a new set of glow plugs & a front output shaft seal for transfer case for £60 inc postage. They also have a good part finder section making it easier to find stuff.

DO you travel to any military events? If so which ones?

Cheers

Hi JamieI am after the cast adaptor that goes between the main g,box and the transfer box and acts as the g, box rear mount. They have the weight of the transfer box hanging on them and can crack around the circumference. I have dealt with us-army and he is OK but I have not asked about the adaptor yet. I just looked up Rockauto and they seem good but they don't list this part. I have tried quite a few other places such as Cheverolet (no longer available). If all else fails I might look to get one machined. It's always my intention to get around the local shows but I work at sea for a month at a time and I am usualy in the wrong place.I always wanted a M1009 and had a plan to use Tavern components to "upgrade" one. Might still do that one day if I can.I won't let go of the pick up though, I just love it!Iain

Good news, what's the part called on the site?

Hi Jamie

Its called a "hausing Mecanical drive M1008 M1009 CUCV p/n 14020861" on the site !

I won't get to see it for about three weeks but hopefully it will do the job OK.

I find it surprising that Chevrolet would produce these in the many thousands with such a weakness.

Maybe a machined and much stonger unit is the long term fix !

Hi Guys,

Good to see this thread started.

I have just bought a 1985 M1009. I hope to have it home soon. It is currently waiting the arrival of a speedo drive gear and passed the MOT with some work on the steering. It has also had some welding to the floor/pillar (yes, it has rust in the usual places) and the tailgate.

I am loooking forward to getting in and finding exactly what I have let myself in for - this is my first MV after years of wandering the show fields and getting the hang of which dash lights should stay on and which should go out!

I am amazed there has not been more of a response to this thread - I counted more than 20 CUCVs registered in the last War & Peace programme (though some were from the continent) and a dozen of them were M1009s.

Look forward to picking up some tips.

Steve

PS I got my Blazer through putting a wanted ad on this forum.

Hi Steve

Does your new trucks reg end HAM? I think its the one a mate of mine was going to look at but you got in first. Where abouts are you based, is it Devon way? I've had countless conversations with 2 particular guys at various shows saying they were after one & have been for a while. I have a feeling we have already met, so would be good to know who snapped this one up. It looked a good truck and not a bad price.
