Torque settings please for Bedford 28hp QL

Bigends ?

Mains ?

Headbolts ?

Cant find them in Book No 101/BD4 Bedford Maintance manual & instruction book, 220 pages

Ian,

There were no torques specified in the wartime Bedford manuals. To tighten the head they advise "on no account must the head bolts be overtightened. Fully tight with one hand on a cylindor haed wrench, such as Britool No. D4117V, should be taken as the limit".

sorry Richard butt I have some outer data:

cylinder head bolts 126 Nm 93 lbf ft

connecting rod nuts 85Nm 62 lbf ft

crankshaft main bearing bolts

front and intermediate 156Nm 115lbf ft

rear 92Nm 68 lbf ft

flywheel bolts 65Nm 48 lbf ft

That are the torque settings that I used on my engine, be careful if you use the old lock plates on the crankshaft bolts as thees don't torque very well.

I replaced thees with tight fitting washers and some lock-tight tread lock on the bolts.

Guy,

Where did you source these torques from? They are so considerably higher, that I would be cautious on using them.

Ah, Guy, I have found your information source, http://www.avi-ltd.co.uk/id12.html sadly this is for the 214 engine, which although is evolved from the 28hp, it is not the same engine. I personally would not use these torques on a 28hp.

Hello Richard, my information came from , Ditton bedford parts. Yes it is for a 214 engine and have used thees torques on my engine.

We well see what happens but you are right thees settings are a bit high.

Guy
