captain jim
HI! I stripped the brakes on my GMC earlier in the year and didnt take much notice of the differences in the type of rear drums (see Pic) however i have come round to painting them and noticed a distinct difference in shape! are these both GMC parts and compatible i ask as i have not actualy driven the truck prior to stripping it down, as you can see the one in the foreground is obviously different! N.O.S.
Looks like the unpainted one is a demountable drum (it should knock of the hub once the csk set screws are removed) whereas the others are fastened to the inside, i.e. you have to pull the hub right off to get the drum off. Both are same size so I'm sure it is fine to mix and match. If anyone points it out, just tell them one hub got blown off on D-Day and they repaired it right there on the beach with bits off another :cool2: Edited November 5, 2012 by N.O.S. captain jim
Nice!! thanks for the answer it makes sense now, they both came off the same truck so it must have run ok before, i will put it back on and see how it gets on, (also gives it a good war story :-D) regards James
