GAZnUSA
I have two GAZ automobiles located in Northwest Arkansas. One is a GAZ 69 and the other is a GAZ 21 Volga. The GAZ69 is being restored now and I hope to have it painted and ready to roll by the end of this year. Once this one is ready I will hopefully start on the GAZ 21 next year. I hope to get picturess posted of the GAZ 69 soon.

Tony B
Welcome! How do the neighbours feel about the red stars though? Though a lot of the Gaz bits are copies from Ford anyway.
Savarus
Hi there! I'm also a new member here so hoping to extend the welcome that was extended me! Watched a strange Russian film the other day featuring a 21 Volga as a super-hero's flying sidekick car. Think Knight Rider with an anti-gravity device! "Black Lightning". Very cool! A nice looking car the Volga!
GAZnUSA
Welcome! How do the neighbours feel about the red stars though? Though a lot of the Gaz bits are copies from Ford anyway. I don't have the red stars on them yet. As soon as I get the GAZ 69 painted then it will be decked out with the red stars and hammer and sickle stuff. As far as the neighbors go they don't know what they are looking at and don't understand when I tell them. It is a long way from Arkansas to Moscow. You are right both the GAZ 69 and Gaz 21 Volga are Ford copies. They both make restoring and maintaining a little bit easier than most vehicles because so many generic OTC parts either fit or will work. Kufra Kiwi
You are right both the GAZ 69 and Gaz 21 Volga are Ford copies. They both make restoring and maintaining a little bit easier than most vehicles because so many generic OTC parts either fit or will work. Can you be specific about which Ford parts are interchangeable or usable? In an earlier thread when I said I understood some Ford and Gaz parts were interchangeable, that was disputed. And can you please confirm that the Ford parts are from the Model A? If I am correct, the Gaz parts are not "Ford copies" they are actually Gaz copies of Ford parts, or maybe even Model A Ford parts produced under licence by Russia prior to WWII. GAZnUSA
I think your opinion that the parts are GAZ copies of Ford parts is more correct at least as far the GAZ 69 is concerned. In addiditon, I needed new wheels for the GAZ69 and I found 16 inch wheels from a Jeep CJ5 slipped right on. The spacing of the lugs and the large center hole for the hub made them hard to find. GAZnUSA
Here is a photo taken c.2005 of my GAZ 69 in an underground garage in Baku, Azerbaijan about 3 years after I purchased it. I had the engine and rear end overhauled in Baku. It has been in a mechanic's garage getting lots of needed TLC such as brakes, shocks, front leaf springs, and new carburator. It was just painted last month so the next step is seats, tires and decorating it with all the red stars, hammer and sickle, shovel, axe, and all the other Soviet era looking things that will make even more of an eye catcher than it already is. I will try to post more photos when I can get them.
