FV432 oil leak

Hi

I purchased my first 432 earlier this year and I have a few mechanical problems that I'd really appreciate some help with.

There is a severe oil leak on the transverse box at the rear of the engine (one gallon of oil per 30 miles travelled)

I understand this is a dry box and should not leak oil

is this a leaking crankshaft oil seal?

Will this cause any damage if I continue to run it?

Can I fix this through the inspection hatch at the rear of the engine or is it a pack-out job?

IMG_0977[1].jpgSorry image is on its side - beyond my technical ability!

Can someone please help?

Thanks

Dennis

It's a lot easier to work on these and see what's happening with the pack out. Even if you can do it through the hatch, I reckon you'd be making a mistake not to lift. It's not that major a task to lift and you get easy access and all around visibility.

Is it clean oil? if so it is rear seal on gearbox, so its pack out, gearbox off and then a strip and renew seal quite a big job .you will eventually kill the gearbox if you continue to run it .sorry for the bad news

No its dirty oil

it drips out when you raise the revs, there appears a small hole in the casing, its just behind the pliers in the attached photoIMG_0978[1].jpg

Thanks

I think this may be the same problem that Mark had with the 432 at the 2009 W&P Show.. can't remember exactly what the problem was, only that we did a temporary repair.. Sure Mark will have more info on this..
