Allan Williams Turret

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what has happened to the Allan Williams Turret at Worbarrow Bay on Lulworth ranges? I went to Tyneham on Lulworth ranges on saturday and when we got to Warbarrow I went to show the Turret to our daughter, the base was still there but the domed turret was missing! Judging by the fresh scrapes in the grass, and flakes of rust lying about it seems that it had been removed recently. Has it been removed to be restored or has some low life got a couple of quid for scrap? While at Tyneham we visited Tyneham Farm where the Dorset dry stone walling Association were in the process of building a "scrappy wall" some parts incorporated in it were sections of 432 track and exploded tank shells. Tyneham is a village that was taken over by the army in 1943 to train American troops for the D Day landings. It is in a Tank firing rang, but is accessible most weekends, and well worth a visit.
