Shunting a DEAD FV432

mill comms

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I want to get a FV432 from Withams in there January sale, now they are at the end of there stocks i will possibly end up with a dead one.

Delivery by Withams is relativley cheap but i was told i would need a vehicle to pull it of the low loader.

I am restoring a David Brown Implematic 990 tractor which is rated at 55 Hp and is in running order.

Does anyone out there know if this is man enough to Shunt a FV432 or any advice on shunting this type of vehicle.

Also a 7.5 ton Daff lorry?????can this be sued to shunt over a Field?

I will try to post a piccy of tractor.

Thanks

When you go for the viewing day make sure you talk to the guys in the yard. They are usually quite helpful and will tell you what is wrong with the vehicles, if they know. Ask them to start some up, they should be able to start the ones which run. When we bought ours we heard it running before we bought it, and that was from a tender sale. I don't know what condition the vehicles in the tender are in, but there are usually some good runners.

How far do you need to move it? I don't think your tractor will be able to pull it. I pulled a dead tractor like that, which was totally siezed up, using a 432 and it didn't even notice the tractor was there.

I have towed CVRTs about with a Land Rover, a Ford Pickup and another CVRT. They are easy enough to turn once you get them moving. A 432 might be a bit more of a problem. You could try asking Withams to bring something to drag it off the truck with, I know they did this when delivering Andy's Striker.

Thanks Chris.

I read an article by Laserwars Paint ball site , they had a broken down FV 432 and towed it over 3 fields with a Humvee.

I think i will take your advice and see Brian at Withams and get a runner or one with dead batteries as my sankey trailer generstor has a set of FV 432 batts which i can jump start from.

Failing that do you still have your A frame for sale.Might need one soon.

Yep that was the worst batch of 432s I've seen go through the sales, clearly the last ones in the yard. One did have a mattress and some clothes in the back, I wonder who was living in there! There was also one with a birds nest...

Pulling it is easy, one rope and virtually anything van size will do, now turning it, stopping it on a hill or even getting it to go in the direction you want is a totally diffrent matter, without a solid bar or preferably an A bar and something with a bit of mass is just asking for trouble. :-o A 432 can make a nasty mess of someone or something very quickly :|
