44GPW
Hi Gren, Nice looking MW and with an exciting history i would suspect being over there in Italy? I see some early features, large head lights, round grill badge, which may point to it being an early model? Any chance of some photos inside the cab and the engine compartment? There are some on this forum that have rebuilt the rear bodies, so i'm sure someone will have the plans you seek? I can see the current rear body is not original. Great find. rippo
Hello, Nice find, these mw's are popping up all over. The Chassis number is on the passenger side chassis rail, between the step brackets, Here's a picture, not the best but you can just see the numbers. Let me know what it is and i'll tell you the year of manufacture. As richard say it has some early features, and some late ones to. I think thats possibly been a tanker, but the chassis number will tell for sure. Regards Rippo
gren.nik
thank you for your reply. Chassis number stamped on frame is 43647 (1943?)
rippo
Hello, Your mw was made in 1942, there should be some letters in front of the number, MWD or MWC, what was it? The cab and the engine look fairly complete and original, not sure what the petrol dip stick is from, to long for an MW, to many increments for an oy and i'm prety sure a QL one has a square bottom. In the picture of the cab, there is a small hand lever on the passenger side, what does that do? I think thats the handle to engage the pto for the pumps on a water bowser, that would tie in with the rear mudguards and the back of the cab. Does it have a hand throtle? pbharcourt
Is this the sort of tank it would have had?
gren.nik
Yes! I found the letters near serial numbers.."MWC". So it was born as water tank and then modified as truck! here is another pic of the interior...
rippo
Is this the sort of tank it would have had? Yes it would have been that style of tank but the shorter version, the one shown looks like an oy water tank. regards Rippo
Smithy
I should imagine it would have looked something like this one?

gren.nik
uhmm...really difficult to find the original tank! I found many tools in the tool-box...which are original among them?
Tony B
The folding machette, a nice unusual bit. Tools should be dated and marked with the arrow.
rippo
Hello Tony, not all the tools in the tool kit would have had the date and crows foot on. Only the standard WD spanners would have, the specialist tool from bedford in the kit had "Vauxhall bedford war finish" and the tool number stamped on. The curly wheel brace looks like the standard one shown in the drivers handbook, is there anything stamped on it? The hammer and adjustable spanner are definatley not original.
