MHillyard
Tempted to buy this, it is described as a ww2 US hankers helmet. Is it a tankers helmet? i have seen similar described as dispatch rider helmets Is it ww2? it has a stamp "57" but is that the date?
wdbikemad
I think "57" is the size......and this item probably not US but European in origin. America used "British" numbered headdress sizes...... The US-style tankers helmet was copied by a number of nations post-WW2, including Germany...... MHillyard
so it is probably post-war, would these ones still be used for tank crews? and also how does this one differ from the war-time pattern?

I think they would have been used by post war tank crews. Here a link to the WW2, US tanker helmet; http://www.quanonline.com/military/military_reference/helmets/wwiitanker.html
MHillyard
so what are the obvious differences between the two? Would the post-war one be suitable with a post war american uniform? I'm not too strong on this subject

I'm not too strong on this subject I presume Post war US had the same tanker helmets as WW2. This one is European, maybe German. This one has different placements of the holes, earpads have different earphone straps. For people who don't know tankerhelmets you may get away with it. Question is what you want to portray. Was just thinking of an easy lightweight uniform to wear to shows etc, Tankers Helmet, Tankers Jacket, trousers
