I thought you might like a few pictures of U47 that I have been gifted by a relative.

The two pictures above show the motors, servo and battery compartment it looks to be ready for the water just requiring batteries and a remote control handset.

Wikipedia is a bit light on the subject.

 

I am pretty sure this is the guy that navigated in between sunken hulks in a supposedly impossible passage, sunk the ship and went out the same way.

 

considering in them days you couldn't see anything it was quite daring.
