John Tremelling
Good day Gentlemen. My interest is mainly in the British Army prior to the use of vehicles, I keep horses which I use for both Cavalry and Artillery re-enactment, and I make lead soldiers. I am however currently researching the Royal West African Frontier Force of post WWII when my father served. I attach a photo of an artillery tractor and what I believe to be a 25 pound QF as used by the Nigeria Artillery, the particular photo of a visit by the Governor to Enugu May 1958. I wish to model this piece, but am unable to identify the tractor from my modest knowledge and library of vehicles. Will someone please advise me? Is there a kit or model of this vehile in 1/32, or must I scratchbuild? If so,where can I find detailed drawings? Best wishes, John T
John Tremelling
Sorry, for 1958 please read 1948. JT
John Tremelling
Is this vehicle then so unusual that no-one recognises it? Could it be foreign, ex captured Axis? Any ideas where else I might try? Thanks, John T
Jerrykins
Looks like a Morris C8 to my none to reliable eye. Jerry
John Tremelling
Thanks Jerry, I think that you may be correct. I had thought that the front looked like what I know as a standard 25pdr Quad, I had not known that to be a Morris C8, but following your suggestion and searching the net for C8 I see that there was a Morris C8 GS utility vehicle version. It looks similar to my equally none too reliable eye. Certainly a slightly differing cab, but the bonnet and wheel base look the same so it might be another variant. Thanks again, John T Edited November 30, 2010 by John Tremelling
Runflat
Yes, it is a Morris Commercial C8 Field Artillery Tractor - a Mark III with No. 5 body. There's a string on this forum with lots of photos. http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?7635 Edited November 30, 2010 by Runflat

John Tremelling
Thanks Mike, I shall however take your own advice and not rely on it, especially as flying that ensign you seem to be a bluejob. John T

John T http://s12.invisionfree.com/ScaleModelsMalaysia/ar/t4661.htm Here is how one guy converted a Quad to get what he wanted modelwise.....Quite a way down the page though
John Tremelling
That's my challenge then Mike, would look good with a Nigerian soldier in a Fez standing to attention. Thanks a lot, John T
