Joris
Do you know if it was scrapped entirely or were certain parts (like the turret) saved?
Bodge Deep
Poor old thing seems a shame it couldn't have become a gate guardian or memorial :noyay:
mcspool
It was too far gone to restore really, not in the last place because of the immersion in salt water. There were plans to preserve it as some sort of gate guard / memento at the range, but the Army decided otherwise and it was scrapped entirely. steveo578
The current targets are Leo 1 and Centurion. It's interesting to read the comments on these photo blogs:-D.
eddy8men
a real shame, these things are too rare to be scrapped and even when so far gone there's still plenty to salvage for other restorations ,i think it was adrian barrell who was looking for a glacis plate ,not sure if it would have suited, but you get the idea.we have to preserve our armoured heritage whenever we can because there won't be anymore to salvage in a few years time. eddy
steveo578
As a whole it was probably beyond it, according to what has been said on other sites/blogs it has been used as a target for naplam bombs and air weapons, I suppose the glacis could have been recovered for the Feldom Mk1 -not quite the correct design as it has later periscope type drivers hoods but better than nothing and the drivers hatches might have been viable. 25 pounder
a true shame that this could happen we simply must accept that certain people haven't got any intrest in history , no preservation , nor conservation for them. very very sad !!
