ajmac Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 http://the.shadock.free.fr/Tanks_in_France/sherman_claudewinling/index.html Just found this on a french site. Apparently it is one of the normal post war french rebuilt vehicles with a Radial replacing the multibank. An M4A4T.... but I don't know if that was the 'official' name. I also came across photos of a museum that was called the American Society of Military History in the US, you've never seen so many Shermans. Enjoy this site: http://www.toadmanstankpictures.com/ Quote
Adrian Barrell Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 An M4A4T.... but I don't know if that was the 'official' name. Yes, it was. The T stands for transformer, meaning to change or alter. It's quite an easy mod, as the multibank and radial use the same clutch and there is plenty of room for the engine! New engine mounts are required and the electrics are different regarding the ignition. They also seemed to use the rear mounted radial installation aircleaners though I'm not sure why as it would have been very easy to use the M4A4 cleaners in their original locations. Quote
ajmac Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Any idea when and where the last multibank was run in service? Would it be the Argentinian Fireflies before they were up gunned and re-powered in the late 70's.... Quote
Adrian Barrell Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Good question....... Argentina would be a likely candidate though I think their tanks had been through at least one re-engine programme before then. Quote
