  1. Hello, We got a QL form our local TA in about 1990, well it wasn't quite a full QL but the QL training chassis, the complete chassis and running gear, but it had all been cut to see the moving parts. Remember my dad being quite disappointed, although everything was new it was unusable due to the work done. About the same time or possibly a few years after 1995-6?, two QLs turned up on a remote airfield, and were sold by the ministry, think there may have been a matador too. They had been converted to snow ploughs and were painted yellow. A chap near us ended up with one and they were in remarkable condition. Regards John
  2. Hello Danny, I tried to get these parts from Norman aishe, But he didn't have any, and so far i am yet to see them on a bedford. The way i have done it on my bedford is. I got a new front pipe from John Mortor. He said he had copied them from original parts. fitted the front pipe, them fitted a NOS silencer to it, them measured the gap between the bracket on the chassis and the one on the exhaust. It was around 3 inches, i made up a tube this length, and bolted it together with a castle nut. I left out the thackery washer as i didn't have one, but in light of the comment above i think i'll try and find one. Like yourself i'm a bit confused what the thackery washer will do, But it makes sense it need to flex. John
  3. These fit snugly in the boxes on the side of a QL bofers.
  4. Hello, I hoping to get some help with the routing of the fuel pipes on the bedford MW. Mine had been replaced using non standard items so the pipework wasn't quite right. I've collected the original parts and some pipes. So far i've got the pipe work for both tanks to the switch over tap sorted. From the tap to the engine i'm a bit stuck, The picture below shows how the old pipes were routed. From the tap, along the chassis to the crossmember on the bulkhead, turns at 90 degrees towards the engine, then under the cross member and along side the engine. There are two P clips holding it to the bulkhead cross member, which is ok, but if i do it this way now it will come out further (past the chassis rail) than what it needs to, and will go back on its self (to the chassis) to conect to the tap. So are both P clips needed? Or possibly this was the was they were done? The second problem is, the pipe comes from the tap, along the chassis, under the bulkhead and along the side of the engine, making it a very long pipe, and very arkward to get in, is this one piece on other MW's, as i have been told it maybe two. thanks
  5. Hello, My dad has a QL that went into the army fire service after the war, and that has the civillian registration (juv 749) on the rebuild plate as you describe. Pre-war trucks also have civilian registrations but i'm not sure if it would have been on the plate. There is a book which gives the date a registration number was issued, that may give you a better idea when it was put on the truck in question. Regards John
  6. Hello, Right heres one for all you dutch chaps. I have been given this photo by a friend in work. It shows his father W Hollywood, the one holding the borrowed german camera and some of his mates of the Royal Irish. Written on the photo is Nijmegen, Holland, August 1945, and the names of the soldiers. On the right is a bedford QLT and on the left a CMP 15cwt. Can anyone recognise the building in the background or the location of the picture? Thanks
  7. Hello mike, Nice to see you on here. Regards John

  9. Hello, Yeah the toolbox and can holder each have one on. They line up with the plates on the tailboard, and act as a bump stop when the tail board is down. The later MW's have a spring on the plate and a piece of wood instead of the rubber. If you zoom in on the picture above you can see them quite clearly. the picture below has the wrong ones on. Something else for your lad to look for at beaulieu.
  10. Oh i don't know, there in fair condition for my age! Find me a wiring diagram plate, and you can have my front ones!!! :cheesy:
  11. Hello Paul, Not to sure what the tailboard is, but i'd give my back teeth for the rubber bump stop of it!!! the rubber bump stop is off the tool box, or two gallon can holder. Regards John
  12. Hello, I think the engine from the K type would be the same, or the civilian version of the 28 hp. But i think the gearbox may be different being a syncro box, rather than a crash box. The engine should have 28 cast into the side of the block, if its by the fuel pump is a military engine, and i think its by the distributor if is civilian. There are slight differences in the engines but they won't make any difference to you. The pto you show looks correct for a MWC. Regards John
  13. Hello, Whilst carriiers are being discussed can someone tell me where the oxford carrier comes into all this? and why are there so few about? thanks
  14. Hello, Jules the morris is in front of the vehicle towing the bowser, i think. The body looks to long for a 15 cwt. Possibly a bedford OY water tanker? The hoops look to low for an OYD compared to the one in the background? regards john
  15. Hello, I would agree it looks like a bonnet cover, possibly a bedford one either MW or OY.
  16. Hello, the internal thread looks like a BSPF thread type, possibly 1/8? regards

  19. Hello, Can anyone point me in the right direction of a copper or brass solid rivet supplier? I need 3/16 flat head rivets, i have has some off ebay in the past, but now there are only dome head rivets. I've searched the web and can only find someone selling them by the 100 and i only need a hand full. Any help would be gratefully recieved. Thanks
  20. Hello, Hopefully someone can help me. When using solid rivets and using a snap to made a domed rivet head, what is the calculation to workout the rivet lenght to produce the rivet head? I remeber using it during my apprenticeship, its something like the thickness of the metal being riveted plus diameter of the rivet or was it half the diameter, i'm not to sure. I've tried all my usual sources, zuse, internet, and the machinists hand book from 1946 but i can't put my finger on it. If someone can tell me it will save me a few hours-days, rooting round the loft for my apprenticeship notes. Thanks Rippo
  21. Hello Tom, I'd say there are at least 20-30 Aeroscreen MW's in europe. If you can find them all and i'd guess there are around 200+ MW's all together. A friend restoring an aeroscreen water tanker is also going to try and finish his for this event. Regards John
  22. hello, I should be there in 2014 all being well. Regards John
