  1. I have a couple of greenhouse heaters for use in the interior of a couple of vehicles I store outside under tarps. They work well and operate 24/7 using very little power and only enough heat to keep the interiors dry. Cheap as chips to buy; screw on a couple of wood battens as feet and away you go. Fit and forget.
  2. I am de-activated......I had the "snip" done many years ago. My wife says I am cheap, too, which is I think rather unkind, if accurate.
  3. Noticed with interest a Land Rover Lightweight just come up on Milweb for £25k! Admittedly, for what you get, its a much better buy than one of these J++p thingies at a similar daft price. It looks a decent enough late Series III truck from the few photos posted and declared rare because its an FFR and has some winterising equipment still extant. Well the FFR thing appeals to some folk and puts others off due to problems and potential expense, so that hardly justifies hiking the price, which means there is at least a £13k premium assumed for the winterised bits. But hey, if you don't ask, you don't get.........but I have found that the Landie mob are a stingy lot, so good luck to getting that offloaded!
  4. "I paid £21000, and that wasn't even for a finished Jeep! " Cripes! IMHO you were really ripped off! At the end of the day, the humble Jeep is a very simple vehicle and with all the tinware you supplied, the result should have been 100% and you are 100% justified in feeling properly done over.
  5. Well looks like someone needs to go on a welding course for a start. As to the standard of resto' and what you paid, only you can judge if it was fair. Resto' is not cheap of course and some folk (not necessarily you) are shocked by the cost of good work. Pay peanuts and get monkeys, but as I said, only you can be the judge based on what you have supplied here. If you are not satisfied and there are some real problems (eg engine), as opposed to leaving in some "patina" (or skimping!), then you should have recourse to a fix, but good luck with that and oftentimes it is easier on the heart to just swallow it and move on. But its good you posted this and a warning to others to make sure they choose a good restorer and keep up with the work as it proceeds, in person and via photos, but at the end of the day, you ARE pretty much at the restorers mercy, so choose well! I had a Dodge WC54 restored for me up in Yorkshire by some great lads and that was a nice experience and wonderful to see quality work produced; I visited the build several times and they supplied heaps of photos during the work and that was a difficult job too......it can be done, but as you have found, it is not without risk!!
  6. Curious! Maybe it implies that the Land Rover spent more time doing real graft in WW2 than the Princess?!
  7. The site is still green fields; they ran into planning permission problems - as usual, the developer wanted more houses than the council was prepared to allow.
  8. Stands at £1650 at present, which is slightly less than the cost of a week's fuel for this wee beastie!
  9. That's two days in a row we have had the Scottish Air Force flying over Kent!
  10. Thanks for that ! The 12 pin one on the left looks like what I am after! [Your photo]. How much? - you can PM me if you like. If you do have two of these, I have a mate who is also after one. Ferg
  11. Anyone got one surplus to requirements? Like this.....
  12. I would argue that there are already alternative venues to War & Peace that probably better suit the HMV scene now and in the future - smaller and club/group led, eg IMPS Combined Ops.. The MV scene has kind of painted itself into a corner with hugely inflated prices for MVs that greatly restrict the entry of new blood.........while the old blood rapidly dwindles due to old age and infirmity! This SHOULD mean that in time, MV prices will come down and new blood will enter, but my experience with younger generations is that they are really (in general) not that interested. Anyhow, I would not hold your breath awaiting a War & Peace Revival Revival! Support what we have - which is actually quite a lot.
  13. I have give up on War & Peace as have many others, it appears, judging by feedback from various clubs. Instead we will be supporting shows that support us. No shortage of those thankfully.
  14. Good luck with this! I had a struggle to find these parts some 5 years ago - I think from Mr Morter, who was coming to the end of his stash at that time. There was talk about getting some cast. Then the second hand parts I got had to be machined to mate properly. What a pain and not a cheap exercise! Maybe thats why I now run a Land Rover!
  15. This little video clip is from a 1960-ish 'Look at Life' film on the RM Commandos and shows what looks very much like a WW2 era Matchless WDG3L scaling a cliff! OK - so it IS being hauled up by a platoon of marines at the top but its very impressive, at least in terms of its rider's nerve!! LaLMatchless.MOV
  16. Seen on the Lightweight Land Rover site; canvas headlight covers! This company also does canvas rear view mirror covers!
  17. Coming up in Matthewson's next auction on 12 November. Looks tidy. £8-12k??
  18. I am sure for "direct impact" that is correct - or at least, that is effectively what the helmet standard requires, but for anything other than direct full on impact - which is obviously much more likely, then modern full face helmets will in general of course provide far better protection than a WW2 DR helmet. Just look at how the DR helmets are attached to your head - pathetic leather strap that will either break or slice your jugular! I know a couple of riders who ride to events - quite a long way - and they have a modern helmet for that purpose and swap to DR for display riding. But its up to the individual of course.
  19. I have never been stopped wearing one - and that included when a policeman was checking through the string of riders on a War & Peace hideout. Mind you, on that occasion, a couple of blokes were sporting battle bowlers and that got the law's attention! They DR helmets also "passed" scrutiny for riding on the Goodwood track.......although some coercion may have been involved (anybody experienced Ron breathing down your neck?!). On the other hand its probably not good to ponder on the performance of a DR helmet in a T-bone or similar. You pays your money and you takes your chance. So I would not criticise anyone for wearing a modern open face helmet (full face looks a bit naff).
  20. Try this link - worked for me with just a chassis number and vehicle type. (thanks to Richard Farrant) https://www.rlcarchive.org/VehicleSrch
