  1. Yes, it is the recent eBay one - an "MWR" (although that may just be a cosmetic designation as its missing some MWR hardware - it could get away with being a personnel version MWD I guess, as it has windows in the tilt) - very nice seller with long experience in MV resto's and it is immaculate - but now too awkward for him and his wife for driving and shows; just needs some running to see what needs more work - not too much, I hope! Thanks re the battery advice - that makes sense - the current one seems to be struggling to supply enough oomph though engine does start v easily and a Range Rover electric petrol pump is fitted for priming, which helps. I have not yet taken any photos, but will and post them. My only struggle so far has been in trying to select first gear! I guess I will get the knack. I also forgot to post the second part of my query - it has new tilt and side screens, but no radiator muff. Can you buy these from the usual canvas people - and how are they fitted? Cheers! Ferg
  2. Proud new custodian of a 1942 Bedford MW: the car-type battery looks rather small for its duty - like something fitted to a small hatchback. What size is recommended? - I fitted a big Halfords heavy duty one to my S3 Lightweight that worked well.
  3. I just had a Bedford MW transported from the Midlands to Kent by "JAR" - J A Rose Limited, based in Cranbrook, Kent. The vehicle had just been restored so I paid a bit more to bring it down in a closed wagon. I was very impressed; great communications, very good purpose-built truck very professional and friendly people. Ideal if you have something needing a bit of TLC in transit. Ferg
  4. A good thought F-F! Only problem is herding the cats! Anyone interested in sharing rent on commercial premises? There is surely plenty about. Have not got a clue how much but would suspect that four to six people could be a viable "club". It also means likelihood of having power and light on tap - oh joy! Any takers? I would be happy to do the nosing around to locate some options. Ferg
  5. I want covered storage for a Bedford MW 15cwt truck; happy to share. Ferg
  6. Mine has original Army paint and yes, its nato green inside, with matt black sloshed on to areas which were shiny black - like instrument panel and heater shroud. Elegant it aint! Ferg
  7. I tried to get a Flux quote online 6 weeks ago and am still waiting. I use Footmand James and I get breakdown cover via RAC membership which covers the person, not the vehicle.
  8. Following my quest for a WW2 staff car, I have been researching the Hillman Minx. From what I have found out, most of these staff cars around on the show scene today have been painted in RAF colours (which seems to tally with Lord Routes wartime role as head of production for Routes cars and aeroplanes!). However, most seem to be the pre-1939 model. Details on the switch-over to the 1939-on phase 1 model with "alligator" bonnet and clamshell style boot are vague. Did the Phase 1 model only come out post-war? Or was there a mix of pre-Phase 1 and Phase 1 production durinmg the war? Grateful for any illumination on this. Ferg
  9. Has anyone ANY idea of a fair price for a genuine 1939 military Austin 8 Tourer in very good running nick? This one is show quality. It's offered at a price that seems fair set against things like Jeeps - but its still a lot of money and its nice to have some idea of what its cash-in value might be should the rent man come calling! They are rare beasts so there is practically no recent history for amything this straight and genuine. Perhaps the Austin Tilley sets some sort of benchmark price, but they seem rarely to come up for sale either! Any ideas welcome. Cheers! Ferg
  10. Member of MVT, IMPS, EMLRA and NOBS for several years - NOBS is Normandy Old Bike Society for those afflicted by British WW2 motorcycles. Started out with Matchless G3L - of course I needed a Landie to drag it to faraway places with a decent military tent, so that got me into restoring a Lightweight and now I am looking for a WW2 staff car! Cheers to the similarly afflicted!.
