  1. If you are painting that Land Rover, then for an authentic finish, wet down vehicle thoroughly, drive for 5 miles down a dusty track, then apply Nato green from a 20 litre can using a worn out yard brush. As lumps fall off later, remedy with the special touch-up kit (1 litre can of Nato green and ball of cotton waste). Repeat every year until weight limit is reached then sell to someone who likes spending three months removing paint layers.😁
  2. Looking for a British radio operator's message pad to go with a WW2 field radio op's display for next year. It comprises a pad of tear-off forms, 7" by 5" or so.
  3. I would imagine someone could provide a good guess for the bonnet reg number based on what information is published......via the WW2 Dodge website forum?
  4. Well that looks all ready to rock and roll! Any plans for an identity......unit markings, US Reg no.......via a build card......data plates? I think US factory records are better than the equivalent British ones.
  5. If you read personal accounts of RAF bomber crew members in WW2, there appears to have been a very well organised system of allotted parking up places for each plane, use of taxi ways and take-off and landing slots that did not need use of Follow-Me trucks. Don't forget that most movements for RAF bombers would have been undertaken at dusk or in darkness and with the visibility from the lofty perch of a Lancaster or Halifax being limited for the pilot, you could imagine that ground vehicles running about would pose more risk than help.
  6. If you are an MVT member, you have cover under their Personal Public Liability Insurance. The current terms of this cover are set out in the August issue of Windscreen. It is worth reading these......and also the discussion on a thread below on the Road Traffic Act as applied "off road"! The exclusions in the PPLI are quite comprehensive and, as I read it, provide indemnity for an MV owner ONLY when his/her vehicle is " immobile and adequately secured" (whatever that means). Again, as I read it, cover in respect of children applies only if they "are supervised at all times by a parent or responsible adult". Now I guess having this cover is useful in at least ticking the box that you do HAVE PPLI, which may be an entry requirement for some shows, but it appears that there remains significant uninsured liability attaching personally to MV owners who want to partake of the usual activities on the site. Be careful out there!
  7. Hope the PO stashed a bottle of malt under the dash! You may need it!
  8. Heroic stuff!! Its amazing how cutting edge the Stolly still looks, alongside modern bits of kit.
  9. Quite a few years back now, I was chatting with the late Bob James after he had crawled out from under his Stolly, with fag in mouth......and I was asking him about the problem of drive train fragility. He the told me what his "fix" was, which involved disconnecting summat, but for the life of me I cannot now recall! Back then I had dreams of owning one, but reality got in the way! So good luck to those who can and do!
  10. Well done, Dan! Best of luck with the project......they are nice bits of kit.
  11. Hope HM Customs don't sting you too much! I have a WC54 being restored for me at present, so I have also been helping hunt for bits for that one. Let me know if you get stuck for anything else. Ferg

  13. Pity, but DVLA are usually helpful if you deal, with a real person via an office or on the phone. I guess they cannot automate every situation for online applications.
  14. Normally when first registering an ex-MoD vehicle, eg a motorcycle in my case, you can drive it to an MoT station (having booked in) and it is MoT'd using the chassis/engine nos.. Then you can get it registered by DVLA with an age related number based on something such as an MVT letter saying what it is and when built. Does this not apply to tachograph stuff?
  15. How much is he paying the buyer!! I mean, pay good money to put up with us lot?!
  16. I do get the strong feeling that under the new ownership, the show has changed from an MV enthusiasts event that attracts the public to a public show that attracts some MV people. And I think this is deliberate, presumably in line with the Company's business plan. I found it still a premier MV show, but I can see that it will only take a small drop-off in the support of the MV owner community to precipitate a real collapse in MV (and trader) attendance. Which is fine, I guess, if that is the direction in which it IS being steered and this may benefit the "our community" shows.......may ALREADY be happening, I think. Can't stay the same forever, I suppose.
  17. Just got back from the site. Monktons seems pretty full, but not yet bursting. MV area of Americas filling, but still room and the large public camping area is almost empty. Check in area is quite busy but operating smoothly. Boy it was HOT! 31C but so far, not much dust.
  18. Don't worty! Its all going to be........like this??! Isn't it?
  19. Do we have some responsibility to care for our historic MVs, or "its mine, I can do what I like with it..."? Only I just spotted this poor thing on eBay. Reportedly it "was pristine" but sat in a field for many years, in the open within a few hundred yards of what looks like the sea, its a rusty mess now. "Rescue me!" But too far gone to bother? What a shame. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/alvis-stalwart/183325048397?hash=item2aaf063e4d:g:4I4AAOSwbb9bO6Sx
  20. Tony and John, I think you are refusing to consider W&P as what it is......a commercial event. Its charging everyone what the market will bear, and whether you attend or not, it is still without doubt the biggest show in UK at least and if you do not get full value out of your camping fee by way of (among other things) access to a huge gathering of MVs and a huge collection of stalls, then you are doing something seriously wrong! No show I have ever been to comes close. IT IS NOT A CLUB SHOW! As I said, the other upside of "paying to show your MV" is that you are a customer with every right to demand value for money. As a commercial show, if the punters feel they are not getting value, they dont come and the show fails. So far, it seems, enough punters feel they are getting value. But I know a few folk who will not exhibit for the reasons you state, but funnily enough come for the day as paying (handsomely) public. Not sure I see their reasoning beyond bliddy mindedness! Still, it takes all sorts.
  21. Terry, I think your view is shared by a lot of folk (pay fees to attract the public, etc), but I Think you are comparing W&P with club type shows that have modest financial ambitions in hoping to at least break even. For shows of that ilk, we expect free entry but modest if not rudimentary provisions for the exhibitor. There is give and take by exhibitors and organisers for the sake of the hobby. On the other hand, W&P is a fully commercial undertaking and seeks thereby (presumably) to achieve a decent return for its outlay. MV exhbitors are as much the organisers' customers as the general public........and actually, the stall traders. BUT, that means we (exhibitors, traders and public) have every right to expect and demand full value for our custom. We should not put up with poor services, poor trader turnout, toilets or unhelpful staff.
  22. GO, LARRYH57! Its still the biggest and best, IMHO, unless you want quiet and intimate! Its not rained significantly down here in Kent for two months now so "Dust and Peace" is definitely on the cards this year! Time to get down and dusty!! I say this with heavy heart as my own intended MV is still in bits!
  23. I note that again this year, there are threats of death and destruction for anyone selling stuff off their camping spots......well, maybe not death, but demands for much money (I want to be there when they try this on a bunch of hairy chested Dutch enthusiasts!). Now last year, there was a verbal promise that this does not apply to the usual small scale trading of unwanted bits and bobs, rather to commercial type traders trading on the sly.....fair enough. Was this a significant problem in the past? Cannot recall it was.
  24. Presumably you have seen these...... http://www.welbikeuk.com/about.php
