  5. Welcome to the forum Hugh. Some useful tips there Do you own a MV at the moment? Have a look at the Martian thread and the restoration blogs too. Daz
  6. Somehow I don't think calpol is anywhere near strong enough in this case Bernard! Looks like you had fun with the martian though. Looking forward to following progress with it's recommissioning. :drive:
  7. Interesting vehicle Jim. It's yours to decide on obviously, but if the vehicle has historical significance doing a particular specialised job it might be a shame to alter it from original, especially as a well sorted 2.25 engine can be reasonably quick. I have almost finished converting a 1968 109 SW to 200 Tdi, but it has no special past and will be my daily driver, purely because I prefer the look of an old Land Rover over a later 110. I will also need to tow regularly and the 2.25 diesel would have needed a total rebuild, so that's why I went the Tdi route. Good luck with it, whatever you choose to do. Daz
  8. Welcome to the forum Rod. I'm fairly local to you- a bit further west. Good to know you're keeping another old'un in regular use. Plenty of like minded folk here. Darren
  9. I originally posted this in another forum as I wasn't sure where to put it. However, I just wondered if the photos would be of interest. Darren Here's the link: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?29810-Can-someone-shed-light-on-this&p=304439#post304439
  10. Thanks for the replies Adrian and Tony. It's in a sorry state now, largely due to the fact it is right next to the sea.
  11. Thanks Nick. seems good value to me. It's nice to start with a blank canvas for the living box too I imagine. Cummins sounds awesome by the way...:drive:
  12. Very smart! Just out of interest who did you use for the springs? Have you got much to do to the living wagon? should look good behind Floyd. No chance of 'idle hand syndrome' with you is there :-D
  13. Hi and welcome to the forum. Nice collection you have there.
  14. Not been on here for a while Nick, so it's great to see you back on the road. I hope the Cummins will give you plenty to smile about :-D Job well done I reckon. Darren
  15. Following your restoration with interest. Thanks for posting.
  16. I found this sitting outside the Museum of the Liberation of Jaffa whilst walking along the coast in Tel Aviv, Israel. I've got no idea what it is and can't find a maker's plate. There were the remains of a very small serial number plate on which only the number 5 is visible. Can anyone tell me what it is please? Sorry the photos are not great quaity Thanks. Darren
  17. Hello from the other side of the border Phil.
  18. That really is looking fantastic mate.. a real credit to you and the hours spent working on it. :-D
  19. Nice collection there. Thanks for the photos.
  20. Maybe try these people Robin : http://www.bedfordspares.co.uk/2.html
  21. Seems pretty good to me for peace of mind. Glad you got it sorted.
  22. That seems the most sensible thing to do Vulture. Gritineye makes a valid point about lap belts too. Is it essential that family ride with you? I'm assuming that quite a lot of journeys in the GMC would be relatively short, in which case would it not be much safer to put the children in a car to meet you at the destination? Not trying to be a spoilsport as we all like having our kids with us and it's a treat for them, but from the safety point of view it may be the better option? Would be interested to hear what the installation company says when you talk to them. Hope you can find an easy solution. :-D Daz
  23. Front diff on the series 3 gave up on a tour of scotland. Removed the half shafts and front prop, packed the front hubs with grease and refitted the drive flange bolts with discs cut from a Frosties packet (theeey're Greeat!) underneath to hold the grease in. Drove even more slowly back to East Anglia no problems
  24. Hi. You should be able to get seatbelts from a reputable after market dealer like Paddocks http://www.paddockspares.com/parts-and-accessories/series-2-and-3/upholstery-and-interiors/seat-belts.html or john craddock etc. These will probably be Britax or similar and should all have the correct British Standard markings. Make sure you use large spreader plates of steel or similar beneath the seatbelt anchor points or attach to a suitable strong crossmember etc. Bolts should be supplied but if not ensure high tensile bolts are used. If in any doubt get a local MOT test centre to check them over for you. As always common sense when fitting is normally enough and I have not found any problems in the past. You can probably ask the supplier to measure a belt for you to ensure it is long enough for use in the vehicle. Don't be tempted by belts from scrappers or parts sortouts as they may have been used to restrain someone in an accident and lost their strength. Well worth the money spent on new ones.
